This happens every year. The recruiting services need to see who declares for Bama so they can move those prospects up the rankings.

Who gives a care? It's all settled on the field anyway.
Besides, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State and us have been bunched very closely in the 247 composite for some time. It doesn't matter who is ranked #1 at a given time. We may not even know who finishes #1 until February 5th.

Who cares? They have 24 commitments and we have 21. It doesn't matter if they finish 1st and we finish 2nd.

Exactly! Who cares if the Tigetmrs are number 1 in recruiting or not as long as the Tigers keep getting athletes with high character. It's only a number based on the number of recruits signed.

This is a big "who cares" in my book. We have had top 5-8 classes the last 3+ years and have won two titles. I'm sure a number two class will produce some Natty level talent with this coaching staff.

ESPN uses them in their FPI - it’s the starting point for all of the bias built into the polls. Now it doesn’t really matter if we are 1 or 2 or 3!” but when they are rankinkimg 10 SEC teams in the top 25 that in turn drives FPI results which in turn drives the discussion and polls. It’s an f’d up process. Of course recruiting rankings are largely influenced by $ and subscriber #s - it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy

The 247 composite is just a math formula based on the average ranking of each prospect and adding each commit up to get a total score. Bama has 24 commits to our 21 at a slightly lower (but still similar) average player ranking so the math checks out.
It’s not some big conspiracy.

They have 3 more commits and are only a fraction ahead of us. Even if we get Flowe and Burch, I'll be surprised if we end up number 1. This time of year you hear different things on the number that we will take but 24 seems to be the number that I have heard the most which would be 3 more. From the sound of the article Alabama does not have a cap on the number they will take. If they end up with too many they will just take one away from somebody underperforming. It will always be hard for us in the recruiting rankings when we rarely have the numbers of the top schools.
I did think that it was interesting that 2 of the guys they think that they have a good shot with are Arian Smith and Phillip Webb. Smith says that we told him that we are all full at the Inn on the offensive side of the ball. At one point in time 100% of the CB's for Webb were to us, until prospects that we liked better seemed promising and backed off. If we used the Alabama method of recruiting, Webb would likely be a Tiger, and we would have had a really good chance with Smith, not to mention Trenton Simpson.

Actually the way they do things any recruit increases your ranking. That is why numbers drive the narrative. Even adding a 2 star increases your ranking, so if you have less recruits, it requires a lot better quality to catch up.
