Bracket expert on Clemson - "They're never in there"

Driving my 7 year old to school this morning we talked college basketball. I'm taking him and his little brother to the Citadel-UTC game on Saturday. He wanted to know if those teams play Clemson, and I explained to him about different conferences and how some are "power" conferences.
He asked why everyone doesn't just play everyone, and I used geography and the "power" conference idea to explain why it isn't like that.
Then he started talking about the tournament. He's filled out a bracket the last couple years. He said he's going to pick Kansas. "I always go for Kansas," he said.
"What about Clemson?" I asked.
"Well, they're never in there," he said. He's a smart kid and an astute observer of history, and I'm pretty sure he could do Joe Lunardi's job.

Roughly the past ten years I've only followed football (pro and Clemson) and have skipped most of the college and pro basketball scenes. When it's time to pick the bracket (yes, still do even when I don't watch because I might luck out and win a million dollars), I'm always surprised to see Clemson in the tourney.

I asked her how she made the selections ... "Oh, I chose by mascot and team colors that I liked."

He had always loved playing basketball and the pace & excitement of OPP games. By Brownell's third season, he said the Clemson games were really boring. We quit going. That was 11 years ago.
