Robert Nkemdiche: Clemson is “done deal” if they of

The No. 1 college football prospect in the nation says his commitment to Clemson is a “done deal” if the Tigers offer one more of his Grayson High School teammates, safety Ryan Carter.

“I am waiting on Clemson to offer Ryan; when that happens, it’s locked … it’s a done deal … it’s over,” Robert Nkemdiche told the AJC.

Nkemdiche says the primary reason he picked Clemson over LSU and Alabama, among others, was because the Tigers already had commitments from his two his Grayson teammates, RB Wayne Gallman and DB David Kamara. Also, earlier this week, former Grayson QB Nick Schuessler decided to give up his football scholarship to Mississippi State to be a preferred walk-on at Clemson (Nkemdiche has lived with Schuessler’s family at times).

The only person missing in the Grayson-to-Clemson pipeline is Ryan Carter, according to Nkemdiche.

This picture is priceless for Clemson fans: Dabo Swinney (center) with the nation's No. 1 prospect (left) and David Kamara. (Note: This photo was owned and submitted by the Kamara family. It was not owned, arranged, publicized or distributed by Clemson)

Robert Nkemdiche wants another high school teammate, Ryan Carter, in this photo, too (Note: This photo was owned and …

Honestly

Jul 6, 2012, 7:42 AM

If Nkemdiche only committed here to play with his friends, we all need to reevaluate this situation while it is still early.

This is where Dabo earns his keep.

So Clemson is being held hostage??***

Jul 6, 2012, 7:47 AM

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We certainly cant have this guy making threats.

Jul 6, 2012, 7:52 AM

Obviously I have no experience recruiting these guys and Dabo knows what he is doing.

But, IMO we need to make it clear to this guy that the coaches will only offer those that they feel deserve to play here and he can either accept it or move on.

He doesn't seem like a bad kid or anything, but to this point he has gotten everything he has wanted from Clemson and at some point he needs to know his place in this.

Re: We certainly cant have this guy making threats.

At this point we're in for a penny in for a pound and just need to pray he doesn't alter his demands any further.

Jul 6, 2012, 11:34 AM [ in reply to So Clemson is being held hostage??*** ]

KB - no kidding. This looks bad on so many levels. This will no doubt get picked up across the country on sports shows and ESPN College Football recruiting and Dabo will be made to look like he's getting played by a 17 year old.

What if this kid backs out at the last minute? We're talking about a 17 year old here - their minds can go 180 degrees in 5 minutes.

Those of you saying he won't back out, how do you know? The kid has essentially said in the article he is not 100% committed and he will take a visit to Ole Miss, which is supposed to mean Dabo will be pulling the offer since he is opening his recruiting back up. This section of the article does nothing to make one think this kid (and his friends) are 100% Clemson.

This is where it gets interesting: What if Clemson does not offer Ryan Carter?

Nkemdiche won’t make any declarations, other than to say it will make him look really hard at perhaps the only school left in the high-stakes race at this point, Ole Miss, where Nkemdiche’s older brother plays college football.

Coincidentally, Ole Miss offered Ryan Carter a scholarship the day after Nkemdiche committed to Clemson. “If Clemson doesn’t offer Ryan, it would make me look at Ole Miss a little more, it would,” Nkemdiche said. “It’s very important that I have my boys with me.”

Said Carter, “Yes sir, we’ve all talked about going to Ole Miss together if that doesn’t work out with Clemson. Robert’s brother is there, and he’s definitely trying to get us to go there.”

I think Dabo has some tough decisions to make.

Besides, if he visits Ole Miss, isn't his offer pulled?

Re: NEWSLINK: Robert Nkemdiche: Clemson is “done deal” if they of

Jul 6, 2012, 7:48 AM

This is NOT good. I had a bad feeling about this. Dabo needs to stand firm on this one - it is setting a precedence for the future of Clemson football. As much as I would like to have RN, who is he going to want next, the water boy?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IMO the bottom line is just keeping Nkemidche, honestly.....

Jul 6, 2012, 7:52 AM

I think it's a little crazy that he expects us to sign another Grayson guy that I highly doubt is at the top of any of our recruiting boards, and it sounds like we're being held hostage in a way...

BUT, we HAVE to keep Nkemdiche on board. The guy is a true franchise recruit unlike any we've had out of Georgia. Maybe we can sign Carter (maybe not ideal but you gotta do what you gotta do) and hopefully still have room to land the rest of the studs at the top of our board (or some of them at least).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't agree with that.

Jul 6, 2012, 8:01 AM

Just look at Mike Bellamy/Isaiah Crowell/Mitch Mustain and a slew of other highly rated recruits that didn't work out. You shouldn't sell your program to get one guy no matter how good he could potentially be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: IMO the bottom line is just keeping Nkemidche, honestly.....

Jul 6, 2012, 8:51 AM [ in reply to IMO the bottom line is just keeping Nkemidche, honestly..... ]

He is only a 3 year recruit. And his first year will be in the learning mode. Absolutely no more from Grayson even if it means he packs up and leaves. His coach and his staff will be the next on his list. Turn the QB away along with this other friend. Three from that school was one to many I beleive already.

No usuck fan can EVER preach about recruiting tactics. There's nothing slimy or illegal about recruiting other players from Nkemdiche's team---a 5A team that won the Georgia State Championship last year.......and check all the offers all those kids got from other schools INCLUDING SEC SCHOOLS!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: so is there some rule that says

Jul 6, 2012, 11:01 AM

Clemson actually has a Compliance Dept that would never bend to that slimy type of recruiting practice----while the NCAA allowed the hiring of Jeffries father "provided he was compensated at the going rate", I don't know of ANY other school who's done something equally as slimy---though being in the SEC, its probably a commonplace occurrence.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised to find out Mr. Jeffries gets very good Christmas bonuses---at least until Alshon's brother uses his final year of eligibility.

Make all the comments you want about Clemson.....but who just got put on their 2nd 3year NCAA probation in the last 7 or 8 years??? Everyone knows who the cheater is.....

that happens at Clemson somehow to Carolina. Are you saying it's alright for a recruit to hold his commitment to Clemson hostage because Carolina hired a recruits father? Otherwise, I don't see a reason to bring one up in a thread about the other.

I'm callin' BS.

(1) It came from the Mobile Press-Register "sound off section". From what I can tell, that is a phone line for ANYONE to call and vent their spleen.

(2) "We will see in a few days"... That was written June 18. Granted, a few days could mean several weeks, and it could still happen; but when I read "a few days" I am thinking 7-10 days. If someone means a few weeks I would expect them to say "a few weeks".

Is this all you have? Holy cow. Let's move on and try to stick to facts.

If signing one more guy (and I realize we don't have 1,000 spots left or anything so that's not ideal) seals the deal for sure, then let's just do that and then focus on getting the rest of the guys at the top of our boards like Adams, Fuller, Crowder, etc.

Give the kid some credit, he's not going to abandon his buds at the 11th hour.

And he's not going to drop Clemson along with Kamara, Gallman, and Schuessler over a scholarship for Carter.

Carter may end up at Clemson, but with the limited number of scholarships we have this year, I'll be astounded if he gets one for 2012.

(they are friends on twitter....both are from Georgia with the same last name....may be related?) BUT....this is very disappointing to see. I WANT to say screw the kid and cut him loose....but if offering these kids keep Nkemdeche AND land RB Alvin Kamara.....you have to at least think about it right?

What happens to the perception of dabo when RN visits Ole Miss? There is no way he drops them.

That is why I do not get hung up on these high school recruits ... either you want to play for Clemson or you don't, don't pull this BS now!

time to play SEC football here, offer the kid a scholly, give his mother a job in the front office or build his father a church if he wants to preach

JDT - I agree, all of those options sound more respectable

Jul 6, 2012, 11:11 AM

than letting RN bring all his buddies along to Clemson.

Are you kidding me! 4 scollies for 1 player. Who's running the show around here? Dabo is a fool if he does this. It's ridiculous. Yeah, I want him at Clemson, but I don't like this at all. And is Dabo going to pull his offer if he takes another visit? Can't believe a 17 year old kid is controlling our football staff! Is Dabo that concerned over ONE individual? If so, we are in deep trouble this year!

I need to think about this BS. U want to be a Tiger or not****

This may turn into a power struggle

Jul 6, 2012, 11:59 AM

Deshaun Watson, 2014 commit:

“I am still looking at other schools just in case something happened at Clemson,” he said. “I have had some nice conversations with other schools. The only thing that could happen with Clemson is if they picked up another guy (QB) in my recruiting class. They told me that I was supposed to be the only quarterback, but if they picked up another guy I would just go to another university.”

Could be in 2014 Nkemdiche wants to bring in another QB or he'll transfer

If your Dabo do you go ALL IN?

Jul 6, 2012, 1:26 PM

Dabo has got to ask himself, how far do you go to win? Do you lower yourself to the standards of other teams who go by the "win at all cost model"?

In my opinion I think we are in this thing deep enough already, RN is a stud player that we would/will love to have, but there comes a point where Dabo has to stand his ground and let this kid know that he's not bigger than the university. If not, I'm afraid we will have nothing but trouble ahead.

RN should be happy just to get the oppurtunity to play at the D1 level on a scolarship. He should not be treating this as if it were contract negotiations. I just hope this kid matures and gets his head right before he arrives on campus.

Athetes are bigger than the university. If not for the athletes, how many people in the US would have heard of Clemson University?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

COLLEGE: A three-year starter at strong safety for Clemson, finished his career with 234 tackles and 11 interceptions.

Wow....Dabo is selling his soul!***

Flame away boys but it is time to call a halt to this Sh*t. We cannot let Nkemdiche or any other prospect dictate what we as a college athletic program will do. If we cave to this demand there will be no end to what not only Nkemdiche but other prospective athletes will be demanding- everything from playing time to dictating who is in the starting lineup to jersey numbers. This has got to stop now.

Need big time recruits

Jul 6, 2012, 5:33 PM

We need these guys. Other teams do this stuff all the time we just don't hear about it. The Tigers need to continue this type of recruiting of big time players until it gets to the point to were we don't have to begg anymore. You could lose all of them plus Adams if Mkemdiche doesn't come.
