Guys,
This is getting insane
Called local place for tires, said I like the Michelin Defender LTX but might be looking to save a few doll hairs which he responded that is an expensive tire and he understood. Whatever. He quoted me a GT Radial at $1000 OTD and a Nexum something for $1050 out the door. Now, that should be the end of it, right?
But Greenr reads too much into everything, it is one of his weaknesses.
Discount Tire can get me the Defender for around $1400
But they have a Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenza Plus that I can get installed for $900
But discount tire is on the other side of town.
So do I keep shopping the seemingly ENDLESS number of tires and availabilities or do I just bit the bullet and go to Discount or go to the place that I can walk to and get a GT Radial or some such nonsense? (They offered a Chinese Ironman tire for $860, lolno)
This is a 2WD 4Runner and ever tire I research gives me feedback as to whether or not it works in the snowy mountains or whether or not it will climb a fucking hill.
Is saving $500 a bad thing with the Bridgestone?

I have Ironmans on the Edge for almost a year now with no issues but I only ever drive it on Sunday to take mom for a ride or when I know I’ll have people riding with me.

These are $240 each, 50K mile warranty, $100 off 4, about $1,000 installed.
The GT radial appears to be a $150 tire and not the price he quoted. Walmarts has a set of 4 listed for $533 275/55R20. Dang, they actually have really good reviews. There are a couple versions $530-$600 (AT3 is $600).
So looks like you should buy tires from Walmarts for $600 and be installed for $735? It's a 50K mile tire. I would do that. "GT Radial Adventuro AT3 P275/55R20 111H"

Not loud, good traction, decent warranty. I paid less though like $900 installed at Sam's.
Walmarts has some good looking prices. Are Goodyear ATs still cool? $160 each.

I tried that route,
$1100 for the Defenders from Wally World, installed.

Both had problems with flatspots when it was cold. And I say cold, anything less than about 60 degrees out.
I'm not a fan.
I only buy Michelins now, even on my wife's 17 year old 4Runner.
When the Michelins on my truck wear out (or early next year when I get a bonus), I'll probably put some Nitto's on it. I've had Toyo tires (owned by Nitto) and they were good tires. I've never heard any bad reports of Nitto's.

Just get a good brand that gets good mileage. I've had Defenders and they were good. Last time I put on Firestone Destination LE3. They were excellent in a snow storm in the mountains last year. So good that I will definitely buy them again next time.

Here's how my experience went the other day.

Got flat. Took to Goodyear place nearby to get a patch. Said couldn't be patched, so new tire needed. Fine. They quoted me like $280 for a Goodyear tire, like $230 for a brand x crap tire. I'm like, well, since these are OEM tires, I'd prefer to put the exact same tire on just to keep things similar. I've got 27K miles on the other three, and they're still well over half tread left and on course to last 80k miles or so, not bad for OEM that usually last 50-60K.
OEM tire was: Bridgestone Turanza EL440 235/40R19 92 V
Ok, so Goodyear guy says we don't sell that tire but I can find one, hang on. Comes back with a price of $450, installed, balanced, tax, and out the door for like $515 or something. ONE TIRE. Said he could get it by this afternoon.
Well, as I'm in front of the guy, in front of other customers, at the counter, I pull up the tire on the phone. Wal-Mart (LITERALLY ACROSS THE STREET) has it for $254, plus $28 to install, and it's in stock, and they can put it on day after tomorrow with an appointment. Guy said "good luck". Took the tire and left. I refuse to be ripped off.
Well, I needed to drive to Greenville for work next day, so Wal-Mart was out. I'm not going to get ripped off either. So went to dealer, confirmed not patchable. They price matched the tire, but the install and balance as like $40 more, and I'm like fine, because I need to work and will make that back easily. $325 and I'm out the door, saved $200.

included Dueler and Alenza, on a 2012 4 WHEEL DRIVE 4Runner. They did great for me. I'd prolly go wit them or the Michelins. Or just trade your 2WD station wagon in on a real 4Runner.

car, I have never needed 4WD in my entire life.
And I have an old beach truck to use if I ever need that. 4wd on a daily driver 4Runner for taking kids to soccer practice is dumb af for us.

of course I live on a dirt road in the hills of Upstate SC. Gets pretty slick sometimes.

Go to Tirerack.com to see if they have better options. I did this with my old G35 and got OEM continentals for pretty cheap and then had my mechanic put them on. Saved me a decent amount of money.

Not the best ride, loud noise, probably will ride and sound better no matter what. But they made it 80k miles, which is WILD.

tire is better, and that the tire manufacturer has different grades of tire for the same model as in one for retail and one for OEM. That sounds like BS to me. Why would a tire manufacturer have different grades of the same model tire? Especially on a Michelin quality tire? Makes zero sense to me.
I've noticed however that vehicle manufacturers only put higher end tires (read Michelins) on higher end trim levels, or on models that have NVH issues. I guess they figure they can cover up the NVH problems with a better tire.

2) Eh, my basic trim Ford had Michelin's and my wife's higher trim Honda had something awful like 26K miles?

You said your "basic trim Ford", which is pretty much why I mentioned NVH and using Michelin's.
But...
My '18 Sierra 2500 Denali had Michelins, and my '25 Sierra 2500 SLT has Michelins..but the '25 Sierra 2500 Denali/Denali Ultimate (much more expensive trim level than an SLT) comes with Goodyears?
So who knows?

I had duellers that came on Tundra, I personally didn't like them. I know I should, since Bridgestone is based in Nash, but I still support the home team and rock Michelin's

I got flexed out BFG All terrains on my truck. pairs better w/ the truck nuts.
spend money on anything between you and the ground. gotta tip your hat to the boomers on that one
