Brayden Jacobs offered $1mil to change commitment

According to Brayden's father, he had at leadt one offer recently for $1mil to change his commitment. Jacobs is our second highest rated commit and highest OL we have committed currently. No idea what we offered but wow this is a ceazy business nowadays. Some of the most unknowns in the game are OL players yet HS kids getting offered $1mil before they play a single "semi-professional" game.
This is not the same game many of us grew to love.

What’s crazier is thinking you can recruit and stay competitive without paying upfront. Our class has been decimated because of this. 7 lost commits. Clemson lost 7 commits. Doesn’t sound right.
Please get with it Dabo. There won’t be any talent to speak of in couple of years if you don’t.

How much have you given to NIL so Dabo can “get with it?”

Stop with that. Most working class people in the area could never donate the kind of money you are talking about. Funny thing about today is that Clemson is now talking about the money tbat they have, but can't use it until July of next year. So every other school is cheating?? Get real. The core of this is Swinney's personal values. So either embrace his values and live with the results or you shout a little like the rest of have chosen to do. In short, I don't believe it for a second that Clemson can't compete today in NIL at least a little.

At least now those who use rules as opportunity to take advantage of those who follow rule are on even ground. That's why being undefeated may become more rare and about like the pros.

Clemson was well positioned when it was illegal and 50k here and there could get you a good player We don’t have 1M dollars to pay a high school lineman and if you think otherwise, you are fooling yourself.

Guys... it's not even close. The amount of money luring players is 10x

more now because it is legal. The transfer portal, + legalized pay for play has made it crazier than the NFL by far.
College football used to be a superior product to the NFL in my opinion, now the NFL is definitely better. NFL is more straightforward and stable. I watch more NFL and less CFB.

College FB was never superior to the NFL. It's always been the haves versus the have nots with a joke of a playoff until very recently. 😆

do not blame a athlete for taking that money. I just question the fool who would donate money to a high school athlete to come play football at their favorite school. It’s not like these athletes weren’t treated like Kings before NIL. Every necessity from 18-22 was paid for plus 100k scholarship.
I can understand schools giving them t.v. revenue money . however, some 59 year old guy giving money to a 18 year old stranger is weird as heck

Good thing his pops made about $25m in the NFL and can allow his son to go where he wants to go and not worry about the money.

Paying players/coaches lots of money based upon speculation of future results has long been a big thing in the NFL.
There are very few elite players out there that can turn you into a championship level team.
You can't compare it to your job at the accounting firm.

Yeah, I guess "semi-pro" is about right . . .

If it were actually pro, they'd have to sign on the dotted line at some point and both parties would be on the hook contractually. But to the extent the leverage is being used to procure something that's being utilized in a sort of quid pro quo fashion - as to just purely an economic deal pure and simple (ad for money, etc.), then it does sort of mimmick a pro model - at least in a limited sense.
But things will change next year I suppose. I'm not quite sure what to expect. I do expect it'll become more stable initially. Whether that will calm things down or just re-set the baseline for the next set of developments - I'm not sure. I expect it'll be the latter, but who knows.

Well you know there will always be schools and coaches that will either find the loopholes or test the limits especially nowadays as it appears the NCAA has almost 'ZERO' power to regulate or punish schools for any misdeeds.

It's an article from a TNet competitor so I didn't think it was right to post the link. I am sure you can find it easily if you Google.

There is also a tweet from his father (Brandon Jacobs) but I dont have 'X' to grab the link.
C/P part of the tweet,
Brandon Jacobs @BrandonJacobs27 · Follow @BraydenJacobs77 committed to Clemson and never wavered. School came in and offered up to 1m and he never once second guessed his decision. We’re Clemson Tigers 4L!! 8:50 PM · Dec 2, 2024 1.2K

It's almost like the league didn't like that "Lil ol Clemson" comment Dabo made after winning the Natty in 2016. Without some type of guidelines and restrictions involved, there's no way the smaller schools will be able to keep up. At this point it is what it is....the only 4-5 star players we'll get are the ones that are actually for the school and coaches, otherwise its back to 3 star city.
