And regarding this concern that "We buy their cars but they won't buy ours."

One comment I heard was "US cars are too big". I kind of laughed at that because, sure, US drivers like bigger cars than the European or Asian markets...but still...they could at least buy our smaller cars right?

RIGHT!?!

So I went to the Ford and GM websites...

Ah...the Chevy Malibu...still available but this is the last year. And then there's...well...um...

Nothing?

Ford and GM don't make any other non-luxury (Hello, Caddy!), non-performance (Hello, Mustang and Corvette!) cars!?!

Am I missing something? Maybe there's a site that shows what Ford or GM offer internationally that is a better fit for their market? US Auto manufacturers are literally out of the family sedan and small car business?

Nope, no smaller sedans. They ceded that market to the Japanese and Koreans. We make stuff that reflects the huge nature of the USA, SUV's and trucks. Plus they brought in highest profits margins, what with trucks running$50K plus.

They both make models specifically for the markets overseas not sold here.

I'm not business guru. Or any kind of guru. I wonder, though, if it was the best long-term strategy to completely cede the car market to foreign companies. I agree (or at least I've heard) that the SUV/Truck business is the most profitable but a big disruption in fuel prices could have a big impact on that.

But...what do I know.
