Like him? Hate him? Somewhere in between?
Just my guess, backed up by absolutely nothing, but I've been thinking that Gameday is grooming him to take Corso's place when he retires, which could be after this season, if not during. I kinda like him. I didn't watch his simulcast or whatever of the NCSU game, but do want to go back and watch at least some of it.
I like his energy. He's a lot of fun and brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy to the crew. I don't know that he's the sharpest tool in the shed, when it comes to football knowledge, but I think he's really fun to watch. But I can see how that same energy could rub some people the wrong way, in a big way! He kind of strikes me as the Robin Williams of college football with all that energy and very clear ADHD personality, which can be a really positive thing if channeled the right way.

Come to think of it, I think you hit it. He knows NFL football since he played, and can talk it all day, but isn't as good on CFB.

and usually higher IQ. Pat does know about football imho but it seems to be focused on personal stats on a lot of players from a lot of teams which the Gameday crew don't as much.
Yep, he's a load to take for 3 hours without meds (for him or for me)!

The show needs someone with real charisma. Kirk and David and Desmond have the technical chops covered, and Reece steers the ship just fine.
To me, McAfee has to go SO FAR far over the top to make an entertaining impact. Corso brings much more entertainment and humor with much less effort; one of a kind. Corso is entertaining the way Bill Murray is funny. Understated, seen it a hundred times, but you still laugh.
McAfee is determined to be entertaining if he has to scream the whole time, take off his shirt, jump off a boat, etc. Whatever it takes. At some point it's just exhausting.
Right idea, Wrong shtick, IMO.

replacement as the "comic relief" on the show. If anyone were to continue the headgear it would be him. I also think he brings a new perspective to the show bc he's not as engrained in college football as the rest of the crew (doesn't appear to be that big of a homer to any team or conference).
I watched his broadcast as a replay, not a bad show. It's basically watching a bunch of bros watch a football game with side bets that go to charity. They were raising money for Jimmy V foundation, Dabo's All In foundation, and Red Cross for hurricane relief. I wouldn't watch it live if it was a game I was interested in, too much going on. Its like the Peyton & Eli broadcast, Peyton's company is producing it or funding it. I would say it's worth watching the replay if you get a chance.

its a long show and you need someone who can mix it up a bit. I've alsways enjoyed his radio show too.
On the simulcast, I watch the first part of the game and you'd only to want to watch if you like Pat and his buddies. They do alot of stuff not completely along with the game.
I will say watching the first 5-10 minutes is definitely worth it. They watch the hill ride and he gets into it and drops an accidental live F-bomb...catches himself just before finishing the full pronunciation...they all had a good laugh.

Personally, I cannot stand him simply because he is so over-the-top. If he would tone it down a bit I could tolerate him. Do away with the rah-rah stuff and give some thoughtful insight. And please, please, please...don't try to talk over everybody else.
That being said, I agree that he is probably being groomed to take Lee's spot. And when that happens I will probably stop watching.

I haven't paid much attention to the show in years. It started off really talking about football. Now it is more infotainment with the show and not football being the focus. I wish they would run a football X's and O's focused show on the U, or I'll even settle for the Ocho

I can only take him in small doses. If he goes on too long he becomes obnoxious. Tries a little too hard maybe ? Any way there is no one who can replace Corso. I like " the bear ". Easily the most knowledgeable on the show and would be entirely impartial. He could assume that role and do it well. He's humble and Kirk and the gang love giving him a hard time. He plays along and has an occasional quip of his own. Ya gotta admit he already has the head for it. ?

we got Clay Travis (he spent more time race-baiting than talking sports), so I stopped listening, then we got McAfee. Listened to him every day - hated him, then realized he's just a regular goober. His show he hangs with his friends and they can be pretty good/funny.
It may help if you remember that he went to WVU, so he's basically a coot who's nice (my daughter's quote about WVU people (she went to WVU for 3 semesters)).
I haven't listened to his simulcast of the NCST game, b/c he doesn't know the players and the culture. But I like him on Gameday, so far.

to get a reaction out of folks. He has the energy to keep your attention, hold an audience, but sometimes he simply seems to try too hard and that’s not my cup of tea.
He’s always at an 11. His takes are too hot. I think if he brought it down just a few notches, he could be tolerable. He brings a nice, new energy to the show, but I think it’ll get old pretty quickly. I liked him much better when he had just a segment or two. I’d much rather have Pollack on full-time. He’s funny, charismatic, knowledgeable, and universally liked.
To each his own. If there were another viable option (not Fox’s big noon whatever), I’d probably flip channels, but it’s all we got.

I can't quite decide. I'm about 75% dislike, 25% he's kind of entertaining. I didn't have a problem with him until I watched his broadcast of the Clemson game. He started doing the typical 'make fun if Southern accent voice ' in a way somewhat mocking Dabo.
It couldn't be more obvious that ESPN is trying to bring in the barstool sports experience to appeal to the current generation.
One one hand, Pat brings some much needed energy to a show that has gotten kind of predictable. On the other hand, you don't mock Dabo.

I am assuming he is some country singer
he is just loud and kinda obnoxious
I really only watched it once this year - it was at Clemson .
I guess I try and see the last 30 minutes a couple of times -- just to see the picks and a bit of crowd. I actually tried to see a good bit when they were at App st - because it's cool they picked App st.
