"We're a 4-4 football team, but we all know we're not that..." This sounds typical of the denial of reality in people in this age range these days. i.e. "I know I have dude parts, but we all know I'm not that..." or "I know I am a human, be we all know that I am a furry", "I know that I am not in school or unemployed but I am really just taking a gap year". What a bunch of lunatics. Hey Stellato, you are a 4-4 team because you ARE a 4-4 team. Wake the hell up!"

I think he's entitled to the benefit of the doubt. Things have dropped off on offense since Tony left (or Jeff Scott for that matter). I'm not impressed by Riley's playcalling, but it starts up front. The o-line has been awful. I'd get rid of Austin find an experienced line coach.

So let’s fix one thing - again - see if it works and go through another 6-6 year in 2024?
It’s not one thing.
That’s what you pumpers don’t get. It’s multiple Things that have to all be fixed to right the ship. Including:
* Inexperienced coaches all over the place * Little to No player development * Recruiting misses all over the place * Horrible in game coaching decisions
And there’s even more.

The fallacy is that were only 3 or 4 plays away

[ in reply to A couple plays away huh?were sticking with that?? LOL ] |

The 3 or 4 plays mentioned are actually mega-mistakes by our offense that spot the other team points and make it harder to overcome.
However, we’re really about 30 plays away from playing to what I think the Clemson standard should be.
The players shouldn’t set their sights on “correcting” 3 or 4 plays … they should set their sights on winning THE NEXT PLAY each and every time… and THE NEXT GAME … and then let’s see where we are.
Unfortunately, most of those “mega-mistakes” are on the offensive side of the ball where we don’t have the position coaching experience to correct the mistakes.
It’s Groundhog Day every Saturday because we keep doing the same thing over and over with apparently NO CORRECTIONS during the week to prevent them from happening again.
So as long as we keep blaming “dumb luck” for our predicament instead of taking accountability and correcting OUR PLAY … we’ll end up with the same results week after week.

His false start on a quick pass to Collins on the other side of the field late in the game I thought was a crucial mistake...Collins appeared to have lots of open space available.

that apparently has permeated the program. “Only a few plays away” , “freak plays”, etc. This team is entitled and living off the past of those who did take the program to the highest levels. Time to realize who you are and get to work making your own legacy. Talking to the coaches more than the players here!!

Sorry Troy, if our coaches were brutally honest, we're a 4-4 team because we have a defense littered with future NFL talent that has kept us from being a 2-6 team with 0-fer conference or p5 wins.
We're a 1-7 team, and possibly 0-8 team had we played our pathetic rival's schedule down the road. That's right, we probably squeeze out the W against Furman. That's the brutal truth Troy and I hope our coaches understand that.

This sounds like the Tommy Bowden era trickling into our current players. Until this team realizes that they aren’t good, and feed on these ######## lines of “a few plays away,” they will continue to be a sub-par team. They actually don’t think they’re doing anything wrong!! SMDH. I guess it is the good Lord that is making us fumble the ball in every critical situation.

"...We’re just literally a couple of plays away every single game..."
Sounds likes Dabo's messaging is getting thru... these athletes on campuses are in their own liddle bubble...
They are poorly coached... when you have great athletes without good coaching, all you have are great athletes... not a great team

A player showing emotion that they know they should be better than what the record reflects and folks are just acting like the dude is delusional.
Folks, he's saying what everyone has been saying -- we're a better team than our record reflects and haven't played up to our standards...what do you want him to say?
- Sorry, Clemson nation....we are awful and y'all are right.
- You're absolutely right -- we should fire most of our coaches and not renew the scholarships of 90% of the team.
- The election was rigged and we're point shaving every game since the NIL doesn't pay us enough.
Give it a break. A few things can definitely be true about this year:
1. We're not happy with the results. Change is coming this off-season.
2. We are our record -- that's a team effort.
3. We can absolutely be better than our record indicates.
At the least, the players deserve our support instead of the mockery going on here from some of y'all.

why we are 4-4 is “freak plays happen.”
It’s a terrible, delusional mindset. “We are not focused enough.” We are not doing enough to stop the mistakes. We need to step up more as leaders. It’s our responsibility to stop making such awful mistakes.”
It’s deflecting responsibility. It’s claiming there is a luck fairy. That turnovers are acts of god or something.

Almost seems as if Cade is still playing like a freshman QB...OL looks good at times awful others...Cade can't throw balls that don't get batted! At least 14 pts off turnovers directly...there is your game again...we just don't look like the real Clemson football team...maybe Dabo has just lost his drive or trying to make Cal & Stanford feel welcome...SMU is playing good football!

He still looks like a high school football player to me. He seems to think he can out-athlete opposing players. He prob will be good as a senior, but we're going to have to continue enduring this season, and then next season, before we have the payout.

Fair assessment. And without any significant p.t. last year, CK2 is essentially a freshman in terms of experience on the playing field. He will blossom somewhere. It may not be Clemson.

has every reason to be 4-4 and really worse. The Offense continues to beat our own desense. By the middle of the 3rd qtr they are gassed. The "ladies on the offensive line coulnd't run block or pass block a team of grandchildren. With the offensive line being inept to wide receivers that can't get open to the coaching postition staff this is the epic fail of a team going down in flames quickly. is no fight in this offense or the staff. This cluster will get worse and there are many reasons that will come out.

I don’t get the few plays away?? Our goal is not to just beat average teams! Our goal is not to be searching the playbook for every 3rd down or red zone play. Our goal is to never have a go to play. Can’t even talk about QB, Kicking, etc. What happen to 100 plays a game? We are really broken Sorry — Never mind. How long did it take Fla St to get out of this? What did they do? Looks like many years of this ahead.

In their public comments, Troy Stellato and Cade Klubnik come across as fine young men, as do their teammates. I predict that after college, they will become high-achieving, law-abiding citizens. And probably good husbands and fathers. Those are more important in the long run than holding up national championship trophies.
But ask yourself, would any player on our offense be a starter at the Top 4 ranked teams right now? They would not. Not before the season started and not now. These are not elite-talent players. Also, ask yourself which coach at Clemson would be poached by any of the Top 4 teams after this season. Maybe Garrett Riley, although the jury is still out on him after our abysmal offensive performance this season. But not one of our other coaches would be hired by the Top 4 teams.
And highly compensated Dabo Swinney? He is an extraordinary person, a credit to our school as a human being. As a football coach, he had a vision for “little ole Clemson” and he achieved it brilliantly—in large part because Dabo is one of college football’s most dynamic, savvy recruiters. But while recruiting will continue to be extremely important, the question now is, Can Dabo adjust to the “new reality” in elite college football, i.e., skillfully taking advantage of NIL and using the Portal?
I don’t know the answer to that question, but I would not undererstimate Dabo. Hope I’m right.

I’m chuckling while writing this, but “What Would Venables Do?” The fire and standard that he held his defense to permeated through the whole team.
I see no one getting angry about what is going on in the team. Do any of the current coaches hold the players accountable, or are they just spouting “3 or 4 plays away?!”
The upcoming Notre Dame game will show where the team is on the BYOG scale compared to the last Notre Dame game in Death Valley.
Players and Coaches … I CHALLENGE YOU to show the best version of yourselves and your play on Saturday. And the effort to deliver that challenge begins TODAY!!
I EXPECT to see a resounding CHALLENGE ACCEPTED from noon until the end of the game on Saturday!!
