A 1985-89 Harcombe Memory

A tiny old African American woman named "Rose". She always worked the sandwich, burger, chicken sandwich line. If you ever tried to get her to use the hamburger bun for a cold cut sandwich she would yap at you "Da Bunz is Foe Da Feeelet" So I had to always order a chicken sandwich and then a turkey sandwich on bread and reconstruct it at my table.
You didn't cross ole Rose.

I always wondered if the stories were true about some guys "servicing" some of those ladies in the serving line in exchange for better service in the dining hall.

Rose was EPIC

Entertaining move was to ask for a chicken sandwich while pointing at a hamburger patty. We called her wing woman Bulldog and she could serve fries like nobody's business.
Side story. Once we tied a piece of meat to some decorative balloons and floatered it to Rose and Bulldog. They were concentrating so hard Rose did not see it until it hit her in the head and she freaked!

I remember a lady who sat at the register; her job was to slide the meal card into a card reader. Many times she would miss the slot, get frustrated and mumble while forcefully shoving the card again - often dropping it to the floor! And, it wasn't rare that I would ask a food server what a particular item was - and they wouldn't know!

Remember Rose well. She must have weighed 80 lbs but she followed ARA procedure to the letter. Recall our common aquaintance Rick? Went to breakfast with only his bathrobe on and Rose told him it was shameful. He later flashed random people in Harcombe while in line.
