I think this has a lot about how most of your players got on campus. If a team brings in a lot of players from the portal and things are not going as well as they hoped, then they are very likely to be “encouraged “ by a representative from another team to hit the portal for a better opportunity to play/ NIL.
If more of your players are recruited out of the HS level and have been exposed to your culture, teammates, coaches, etc, they will be less likely to leave.

They program has fallen so much from the glory days. In the present environment this is not a good look for their program

I bet they have some upset fans. They have great fans and by far the longest streak of home game sellouts. I think they have sold out every game since 1965 or so.

It’s a fake streak, they have businesses who will buy whatever tickets are left to ensure it’s “sold out” plenty of empty seats in the stadium

All it is going to take is one playing ripping their knee in a meaningless scrimmage for the fans and they will be done for ever.

It took a while, but it looks like some of TNet’s portal fanatics are starting to realize that the portal is no panacea, and that Dabo’s approach to the portal has counterintuitive brilliance.
Remember, Clemson will never be able to cobble together NIL collectives that can afford to pay (cumulatively) ~$50M per year like OH State, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Texas A&M, etc.
Clemson absolutely must have a blend of both tangible and intangible benefits for us to sustain a competitive program. Building and sustaining a team via the portal as the dominant feature leads to instability.
FSU and Nebraska, being colleges in the Clemson category as far as wealth, have shown what happens when a single season fails to meet expectations rations.
It will probably take a few more years before TNet’s most frantic portal believers see the light.

I don't believe any of our posters (less the LF who might promote any crazy idea) believes the portal is a panacea. I am also confident most reasonable posters know we will never be a top shelf team if we do not use the portal to fill a few spots on our roster (like we did this year) where talent and/or depth is not up to snuff.
