Would it be so absurd to consider DJ for another position?

The guy obviously has talent. Clemson saw something that was worth their while. Remember Patrick Sapp? The QB position just wasn't working out. Coach moved him to linebacker and he went on to be drafted into the NFL for the Chargers. Charlie Waters was the same scenario.. Played for Frank Howard in the QB position... didn't pan out and moved to wide receiver (first team all acc / 9th all time in yards per reception). Went on to play for the Cowboys as a defensive back.
Maybe QB just isn't his calling? Doesn't mean he couldn't be one of the greats in another spot. Just my thoughts.

He should be moved I agree. He could probably add some weight to his big frame and become a center ot guard. Too slow for tight end. If he moved to another sport he could play catcher.

DJ would not accept it even if the idea had some merit. are
Position changes for star players are a thing of the past.
And I’m pretty sure it’s not a great idea anyway.
Waters was a consummate “athlete”, he went from QB to WR to Pro Bowl safety.
Sapp was a much more athletic, mobile guy than DJ.

will be chomping at the bit to steal a 5-star QB via the portal.
That’s just the nature of the whole thing nowadays.

Man, DJ sure looks slow on GameDay though. Not sure what position he could play with that kind of speed.

Thats the only other position, giving his lack of speed, that he could possibly play.

IMHO he will not make that move. He has too much talent to make that move so soon. If he struggles another year then maybe. His biggest issue is his confidence, which is slowing down his decision making ability.

Nothing is absurd. I even thought of moving Brent to the dual role of OC/DC but Brent needs to be on the field, not in the box. Hey, now why didn't I think of that earlier .Move T.E.to field level. If you can change your quarterbacks position, why not your OC's position.

We were told when he was being recruited that he was an outstanding Baseball pitcher with a fastball in the mid 90's. Maybe that sport is his calling. It has become pretty obvious that football is not going to work for him.

I find it more absurd (& a bit disturbing)that so many consider a DJU position change actually plausible.

As mentioned by the other posters. Chemistry and confidence. The whole team needs that. Hopefully with Ship stepping up to be the alpha, and the game winning drive will turn the lights on.
Even with the Pitt loss, I've seen him progress in the past 3 games. He is getting better at the mesh point too. Baby steps perhaps, but better than regressing. I still contend as many others on here have pointed out, coaches could help too with play calling...
The 2nd and 1 call b4 the strip should have been a QB sneak or a called QB run. In addition, they're trying to get him to work progressions opposite of what's natural for him. Also working on changing his mechanics... Something that again is on the coaches. Should have started doing that from day 1. If they did and the kids just not getting it, then maybe you're on to something.
I personally feel like by game 12 and the bowl game, including this week, we'll see the offense more attuned to what we're used to.

I don't think the coaches just started working on his mechanics.
I just don't think there were any questions about his mechanics last season because he was playing well.
When the questions were asked at the beginning of the season about working on his mechanics, the answer was "yes we worked on it all summer and during fall camp".
I didn't take that to mean it was the first time they worked his mechanics.
I took it to mean that yes, it's something we work on every time we are practicing.

Serious question TigersO — as former backup WR’s and WR/RB coaches, what skill sets do you believe that Coach Swinney and Coach Elliott can provide to the reported-to-be top h.s. QB in the country? Would not teaching QB mechanics have to be performed by a qualified former QB and/or QB coach?

I'm a little confused by your question?
Why do think Dabo or Tony are coaching DJ's throwing mechanics?
My natural thought is that Streeter (a former QB and current QB coach) is coaching QB throwing mechanics.
Just because Dabo and Tony are being asked the questions and using the phrase "we have worked on it" doesn't indicate to me that they are the ones actually breaking down and working on DJ's needed changes.
We also need to consider that DJ developed his mechanics from probably around the age of 4 until he was 18, so assuming flaws can be completely eliminated in a year or two is leaning toward living in a dream world.

I can see where my post concerning mechanics and coaching was confusing. Didn't mean to say they weren't or just started. Coach Elliott admitted they were aware of his mechanics in high school and something they wanted to work on.
I was just trying to respond to the original post stating transfer to another position. I should have clarified in saying if the coaches knew his mechanics were not good and didn't work on them, then that in effect would be a coaching blunder... However, we know they have been. So to my second point, that if in fact given time DJ can't correct his mechanics. progressions etc, then he should consider in the future changing positions. Just wanted to clarify that.

Yeah, his speed & agility are off the charts-olb,tb,te...no put him in the slot & he'll kill it; plus he's over 6'3", so he meets our requirements-

He was a linebacker and played QB when every other QB was injured.
Did a decent job and then moved back to linebacker the next season.
