Somebody please this to the powers that be at ESPN

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How many people call all colas Coke?

Oct 13, 2014, 2:54 PM

The problem is ESPN (with a little help from Clemson) injected this "Clemsoning" crap into the sports vernacular. It's going to be a real challenge to get rid of it regardless of the facts.

Here you go! :)

Don't forget...

Oct 13, 2014, 3:00 PM

Adding in teams that were unranked but also lost to ranked teams. In the last three weeks, Clemson has added wins over unranked teams while they too were unranked. I would be interested to see if anyone besides Alabama would be on the list...

You could do it elimination style...

You should also total the teams and losses to give it more pop...

The term should actually be called Tommy Bowdening

Whiners on this board share responsiblity for the term with Espn.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's a hard thing to do, especially in the ACC where

Oct 15, 2014, 7:55 PM

pretty much every opponent is unranked. Hard for an SEC to even be on that list because they hardly play an unranked team due to the bias and if they do, it's somebody like Vandy(your father's Vandy)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Consider this.....

Oct 15, 2014, 8:04 PM

The preseason top twenty-five is stocked with the usual high-profile teams from across the country -- teams, not coincidentally, already scheduled for heavy broadcast exposure. Thanks to its gaudy TV contracts, many of these ranked teams come from the SEC.

Once the season is underway, if a highly ranked SEC team beats another highly ranked SEC team, the winner rises higher in the polls than it might normally, based on the fact that it's just beaten a "top-tier" team from the country's "elite" conference. By the same coin, the losing SEC team in this scenario doesn't drop as far as it might otherwise, since, after all, it has lost to a presumably powerful "top-tier" team from the country's "elite" conference.

Working hard to let this die? Or trying to keep it alive????***
