Wisteria and Huge Oak Trees

Apr 11, 2019, 9:59 PM

Everywhere I go during this part of the season I see wisteria. That's a pretty good sign that a house was in that area in years past. Another sign of a former home is the sight of large oak tress and/or some old pecan trees. I learned long ago one must be careful when walking in an area which was the site of an old farm house years ago. There may be an old well that was once covered with boards that have now rotted away. Some of you older guys and gals may remember Dr. Gaston Gage who was in the Textile Dept. at Clemson. He was walking through the woods and fell into one of those old wells.

Funny you bring this up. I cover SC in a sales role and I’m all over the interstates and back roads. I’ve never noticed it as much as I do now. It seems to be more prolific these days. The trees they cover are struggling to survive I’ve also noticed. This plant and kudzu are slowly taking over the state.

Interesting enough, at the first sight of wisteria, I’ve found that is when bass bite the best.

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

sometimes you will see tulips and other perennial flowers planted around the original home.
