Despite the Trump boom, I do expect a recession soon. That said, with Trump providing a pro-business climate, we will bounce back fine and it will not be like the Great Recession of '08.

I don't see a recession for a few yrs imo. The only thing keeping the most down was the threat of a trade war. Now he's winning on that front too.
Wait til the GDP numbers come out...

fake low interest rates. OTOH, the rates have come up some and it's been OK.
If Trump could ever temper his shenanigans enough to get the GOP on board with him, the economy could explode. To his credit he has done and said things no establishment Republican ever would and it has helped the economy. If he could just rein it in a little, we could have boom times like we haven't seen since WJC's internet bubble of the late 90s.

What has Trump done to help the economy?

what shenanigans would he need to stop that is keeping the GOP from getting on board with him (assuming this is economically related?).

I remember your enthusiasm for the 12,000 point gain under President Obama.
Wait- you were disgruntled about his economic performance.

But it was 8500 at election and ended at 17500ish at Trump election. Not bad for 8 yrs. Trumps has gone up around 7500 I think since election

So under Obama the stock market more than doubled
Jul 25, 2018, 8:19 PM

and under Trump it's up a shade under 40% - which all happened last year as a run-up to the tax cut, and been mostly floundering around since.
Got it. Go MAGA.

the Obama years, right?
We're pretty much half way through year 2 and the stock market is, well, stalled, which ain't bad considering. There is decade high volatility in trade numbers, which is understood considering the volatility in the White House. So, in six months he's cut his 8-year pace in half. But as he likes to say, "We'll see."
This Admin has definitely had the benefit of inheriting momentum of a steady economy when taking office. Employment under 5% (i.e. "full"), steady yet subtle GDP growth (likely outpacing everyone but China at the time) - all that with healthier oversight of banking, finance, industry, and environment. And a budget defict at 50% of the stable genius currently in charge on his way out.

Based On future expectations. You know this. Or are you saying the mkt just happened to skyrocket right after trump won?
Go ahead and make that argument and prove how much you really know.

It's where you start looking at...
Jul 25, 2018, 9:04 PM
[ in reply to Actually I did bring that up many many times ] |
|
Obama's numbers from beginning to end of term: 7,949.09 - ~19,732.40
Trump's numbers from beginning of term to now: 19,732.40 - 25,414.10
Obama's is much more impressive so far...
But if you go by election day:
Obama: 9625.28 - 18332
Trump: 18332 - 25414.10
But obviously the inherited economic situations are incredibly different and there are questions about what impact a President has on the Stock Market to the point where bringing up the Stock Market performance shouldn't be the crux of a President's economic performance.
