I’m guessing you’re buying bourbon for someone else? If so, why not buy them scotch and try to show them the light?

on the Scotch idea. Get him a nice single malt - Balvenie of Glenfiddich. It's time!

have been a bourbon devotee since my teens.never cared much for scotch, but just in the last few months have broadened my horizons and become an enthusiast.started with a nip of jwalker black, which i did enjoy.my son-in-law has been a scotch drinker for a long time, and he has introduced me to several excellent brands and edcucated me in the histories and complexities of the drink.will only imbibe neat.no ice or water.mastered the fine art of sipping and nosing with a glencairn glass or snifter in the course of my bourbon drinking and have done the same with my new found appreciation for scoth.from my experience i've found bourbon to be sweeter and scotch to be smokier.regardless,i do enjoy both.

In the 40's I like McKenna. 50's, well I don't venture that much for a bottle often. I'll pay for a pour of something extravagant every once in a while but bottles... I don't venture much outside of the 40's. Blade and bow is intriguing , can't remember cost. If he likes rye, whistle pig piggy back is in that range and excellent

Tried a great bourbon lately. Usually goes well above $50 but found it under $40. If you can find Makers Mark Cask Strength it is superb.

Four Roses Single Barrel is my go-to.
Jan 4, 2021, 9:58 PM
|
|
Even though "go-to" is pretty much limited to special occasions for me anymore. I like to sip whiskey neat, or maybe with one ice cube, so I can really taste the whiskey. Four Roses Small Batch is really good to, but Single Barrel is fuller and more flavorful, and just a notch better to me. And for the record, I've been touting Balvenie Doublewood on here for years! And I really don't know shid about bourbon or scotch, I just know what I like.

Balvenie Doublewood 12 is very good, but my favorite is Glenmorangie 18. It's about $100 a bottle, but worth every penny. Neat or on the rocks, it's amazing.

Here are my favorites:
Makers 46 Elijah Craig Buffalo Trace Eagle Rare
Blanton's is now producing a Pint size bottle for $50. I had a chance to buy one, but opted for the normal 750ml for $72, despite the fact I just bought a bottle of the Blanton's Straight from the Cask the week before.
You can never have enough Blanton's...

I too am a scotch drinker., Talisker is my favorite. To answer your question, Basil Hayden is a great $45-$50 bourbon. Smooth! Very smooth!
Good luck.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed is right at your price point and the current 116.8 batch is special. If you're willing to go $65 the new Knob Creek 12 year is great too.

Something I really liked that I tried this past year for the first time was Woodford Reserve Rye .Its 53 % rye so it has that rye spiciness but it still has that bourbon sweetness.Real rye lovers would probably want a whiskey with more rye taste but I really enjoy it .

Eagle Rare are both good and can be found in that price range. Four Roses is my go to pour. ER is a close second. For a little jump in price, Angel's Envy is good especially if you like your Bourbon on the sweet side.

I don’t normally go that high for bourbon either. For just a little less Gentleman Jack works well for us.
