WiFi Nerds only

Some of you know things and can help.
Finally got to sit on the dock Saturday and watch the boats. There was very little traffic, but a nice day none-the-less. We did a little swimming, played 60's Soul tunes, and drank cold beer.
What was not too good was my internet down there. The old repeater (WAVLINK AX1800 ) I nailed to a tree a few years back was still working, but barely. Internet was now super slow like the old dial up services, not useable in today's world.
It is on a 100 ft of Cat 6 I put in before the fire using POE (power over ethernet). Lots of trees and brush are blocking the signal these days which needs to broadcast about 200 ft. I checked WIFI strength right beside it and got 190 which is good enough if that were reaching the dock, but it aint.
I ordered in 150 ft of Cat 7 and the newer WAVLINK 2025 AX3000. Cat 7 reads to be an improvement over Cat 6 and better at longer distance than Cat 8. I should end up closer to he dock, with more power.

Earlier this year I updated all my old cat 5e & 6 cables to cat 8 and my in home speeds doubled. Not sure if that will be your experience in this situation but certainly wont hurt!

It has always been good that I have a stepson that has worked with computers all his life bc he keeps mine and my wife's computers and our WIFI working really well!!! I never ask him what are doing, I just say that it's not working the way that it use to and he does what he feels should be done. They will always work better once he's done messing with them!!!

I have a short run of Cat 8 out here to my porch, works as fast as inside the house. I read Cat 7 is better at longer distance.

It uses a 6Ghz band that isnt used by other devices which really juices the speed. Eero (Amazon owned) even has a WIFI 7 router mesh node designed for outdoor use.

You do not need cAt6 or 7 for internet, it exceeds the needed bandwidth.
My advice is to get 5g internet, but check the bandwidth on your phone before subscribing. I get just shy of 1 gig download, your bandwidth will vary depending on the number of 5g towers in your area, but it will outperform cable and phone lines.. The advantage is you can take it anywhere. I bring it to the camper, you can take it on a boat, provided you can provide AC power supply, a small battery generator would keep it running for days. With 5g service, you can also tether from your phone, plans may vary.

True dat, but transmission over long distance is better with a larger, shielded cable. One that can go under ground some places and lay on top in others where squirrels nibble is a plus for me.

You should be getting way more than you need with less than 300 foot on Cat6 or Cat6e. Test your run and be sure there are no nicks or shorts.
My business currently runs Cat 6 on all new installs.

Cat 5e and 6 states it can run a Gig. Most end user devices cannot come close to running the speeds that they are paying for. Our biggest complaints come from gamers. Do not know anything about gaming but they always seem to request and must require the higher speeds.

They are looking for lower latency, not so much speed.

I pay for 500 but I never see over about 245 and often in the 180-190 range. My surfboard and Cat should carry 1Gig but never get close.

TBalm?
Which 5G are you using? Does it cover your whole house without issue and how many channels does it allow? I have been thinking about dumping Spectrum and getting Tmobile or Verizon 5G.

I can't wait for the phone man to come install my new push-button phone. Don't know if I will go avocado green, autumn gold, or stay with the traditional black.

Repeaters suck. If you have line of sight do a wireless bridge from one AP to another.

Not using a WiFi repeater repeating WiFi. This is a 150' Ethernet cable from the main router to an AP. The WiFi signal from there should be nearly as good as the original.
