The thing is...Dabo has recognized this needed change for a while. We've just finally gotten to a point where we can start acting upon it. Dabo recognizes changes needed to be made---but you aint ever going to hear him admit that....and thats fine by me. Just make it happen--just like summer OV. Like I've bee saying for months on here...slight, but meaningful, changes are all thats needed.....

toward possibly digging Clemson out of the hole they dug themselves in for NOT using the portal the last 3ish years?
first, LAND THE OFFERS
second......continue w/ other needed positions.
it's very simple, Dabo just has to swallow his pride and do it.........hopefully this is the first step in doing that.

that's why I said "FIRST, land the offers"..........you can offer all you want, but it does no good if they're not reeled in.
SECOND.........REPEAT w/ WRs......DEs.....etc...
the general "vibe" via clemson "outlets"/media is much different THIS YEAR than those previous portal offers. Most of what I've heard/read is that Clemson WILL be heading to the portal for MEANINGFUL/IMPACT players.
remains to be seen, but this is a start.

but I do know two things:
1. We have kept current player(s) from leaving by getting them more NIL money.
2. EVERY OTHER FBS school in the country gets portal players to upgrade their current starters in some capacity sans Clemson and probably the service academies.
If others have figured it out w/ less "resources" then we can.

It is no mystery that he has been hesitant about the portal. If he recruits it like HS for the few he really wants, he will get his share. Nothing at all unreasonable about that.

Yes it is unreadable, because you are assuming that Dabo has just "half-assed" it the portal up until now. You are ignoring that Dabo has gone after players in the transfer portal before, and they simply didn't want to come here.

He's done plenty of interviews saying he prefers to recruit and develop his HS talent and has made strong statements about not using the portal, including recently to the ABC crew where he painstakingly went through his arguments against using it. If he has had a change of heart and wants to seriously consider all of his options, I feel quite confident he will be successful in bringing in some good talent.
You can keep arguing for the sake of arguing but you are just taking up space in doing so.

Most of us have just been about using every tool and resource available to us that could possibly make our team better and more competitive. Dabo had to get comfortable with the portal option and make sure it wouldn't negatively impact his culture and what he wanted to accomplish. I've never had a problem with that as long as he kept an open mind and continued to evaluate it for a time when it might make sense.
It feels like maybe we (he) have reached that point.

inescapably caused by lack of a portal replacement.
WR injuries, QB freshman-itis, LB rejects, RB blocking misses, turnover scores against, and OL scheme changes don't get solved by the Portal.
None of that gets solved by the Portal way back in the Spring when Portal players are available.
We were 8-4 because of those things, not the Portal.
Continuing to focus on the Portal is to continue to focus on Red Herrings - in the current year at least.

It's not our only issue, but I think the biggest thing holding our offense back has been a lack of playmakers at receiver. The injuries we suffered throughout the year didn't help with that, but our receiving group isn't all that great even when healthy. That's not meant as any disrespect to guys like Williams, Turner, Collins, Brown, etc... but we don't have a true #1 receiver. We have some talented guys, but it's mostly a group of guys that should be #2 or #3 options. None of those guys are keeping any DC up at night trying to figure out how he's going to contain them. Adding a true #1 receiver from the portal would have been huge for us. It would allow the other guys we have to get open more often and would've taken pressure off our running game.

It is not about limiting losses; it is about helping us win more by leveraging all the tools available. If he doesn't think it will help then I don't think he would now be making offers.
