Several reasons. The ACC schools would be a more natural fit. The North Carolina and Duke gain would be a NC footprint and national basketball for the SEC to show off. The Virginia Tech and NC St. would probably be a backup entry but still adds markets and a more natural fit. We of course will be on the outside looking in. That may or not play out to our advantage.

OK and OK st have signed their rights away to the B12. Even if they left, the SEC could not get the rights to their games.

UNC and Duke aren't leaving The ACC

just isn't happening. UNC doesn't have a money problem they will never leave The ACC. UVA or VaTech will not be leaving The ACC not going to happen, NcState isn't leaving The ACC. The Big12 has lost 4 members because they have issues and for some reason a lot of people on this board can't see them because of their dislike of The ACC. Long term the Big12 is in far worse shape than The ACC. I know its not popular on this board but The ACC is in good shape too add another member and put pressure on Notre Dame to come on board full time with the pending disbanding of the big east they have no other home for their other sports.

VT to the SEC will happen fast. UNC, Duke and NC State will then search for lifeboats. UNC grad Big 10 Commissioner Jim Delaney will throw a lifeline to UNC and Duke. Then NC State will head for the SEC as Virginia Tech's partner.

You don't know they are not anymore than others know they will. You are just speculating in the air, like the rest of us. What we do KNOW is that their leaving the ACC for the Big 10 is being speculated in PRINT. We shall see.

my hiney with....the only thing that would save the ACC at this point is a grant of rights that the conf retains a schools media rights. The ACC presidents are united as long as it benefits each of them INDIVIDUALLY. This isn't all for one and one for all. They all have INDIVIDUAL schools as their responsibility. Not the body as a whole.

Big 12 teams signed away their media rights?
Dec 19, 2012, 1:54 AM
|

I know it's a little obvious but big 12 teams could play in the sec but the big 12 would retain the TV right to the home games.
That's why they are the most solid conference out there now. Members can leave but they leave every penny behind.

with them...why the presidents of the ACC coming out last month was so useless saying we are united....if you are truly united you sign a GOR.

The GOR doesn't mean that if someone leaves the conference, they never get paid for being on TV. It just means that the Big 12 owns the rights.
For example, if Texas went to the Pac-12, the Big 12 would still have to pay Texas for being on TV. It would create an awkward situation, where the Big 12 would own rights to Texas games in the Pac-12, and they'd still have to pay Texas for those games. What would likely happen is that the B12 & Texas would negotiate, and Texas would eventually not have to get paid through the Big 12 for TV.
The important thing to remember is that the GOR is not a solid "lock 'em up and throw away the key" option. It doesn't turn any program into an indentured servant to a conference.

The GOR doesn't mean Team A gets nothing if they go to Conference B.
If a team leaves the Big 12, they don't forfeit all of their TV money. They're still getting paid one way or another. The Pac or B1G might not like it, as the article points out. But then neither would the B12.

TV won't pony up as much $ because advertisers won't put up as much for commercials.
