Best is the standard

As I understand the term "Best is the Standard" is an individual commitment to give their best every day. In college football we are dealing with 18-23 year olds. Their best everyday is a roller coaster ride. Every one's is a sine wave of some amplitude. I am 80 years old and every day is still a sine wave (of hopefully a small amplitude from the previous day if in a negative direction and hopefully of a large amplitude in a positive direction).
Before giving me a bunch of BS about "Best is the Standard" define what you mean by the term and tell us how well you are doing in your daily life.
My father was a minister and when told by people "the Church is full of hypocrites" he would reply that's OK we have room for one more.
End of sermon.

Do you think Dabo regrets coining the phrase "Best is the Standard" yet?

I hope not and think he doesn't

I believes he knows it is a goal only and that no one achieves it on a daily basis. If you think you do you are a liar or crazy. Should we all strive for it? Absolutely!!!
Another one of his quotes you seldom see is "I'd rather lose the right way than win the wrong way." This leads me to believe he will retire soon (3-5 years) as NIL and the portal has changed the game he loves to something he can no longer be part of.
I was asked in a job interview once "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I immediately replied "Dead." Then I said "When the little boy in me dies, I don't want to be around." I didn't get the job, and I'll never know if that was the deciding factor, but to this day when the little boy in me dies, I hope that I have finished God's purpose for me. I think that when Dabo feels it is no longer about developing the young men as people as well as athletes he will quit.

OldeTiger64® ... You make some strong points. I agree Dabo will move on over the next five years. He's really been a winner.

Have you ever created or started something that you thought was good, and it was for a while, only to have it used or attached to something negative and thrown back in your face when someone is trying to take a shot at you? I have and it can be frustrating to see your own words used against you.
It seems like now when I read Best is Standard it is always being referenced by someone who is trying to use it in a negative way. This is what made me think if he ever just gets tired of seeing that and wonders if it was even worth it.
I know he has much bigger fish to fry and probably doesn't think twice about it but this is the context behind my question.

When there was an opening for WR coach did he do his best to find and interview the best possible candidates for the position?
When there was an opening for Oline coach did he put forth the effort to find the best one that Clemson could get??
When there was an opening for the OC and DC position did he makes sure there were no better, more qualified candidates that Clemson could buy???
Is Dabo doing everything he can to keep Clemson cutting edge and ahead of the curve in the ever evolving world of college football?????
Is Dabo giving his best like he did 5-6+ years ago????………………the answer is NO and it shows.

entitled to one. As I stated in the reply to an answer above, no one does their best every day all day. If you do your name would be Jesus. Even if Jesus did, since he was fully human, is questionable as he asked if "this cup could be taken from him."
Do I believe he is trying to do his best every day the answer is yes. I am sure he is doing a lot better than I am.

You left out CJ Spiller. Also, the way he handled Cade this year is different than he did Trevor and DW4. DJU struggled (to put it mildly) in 2021. He had another 5 star QB coming in who was a proven winner. For him to not have a plan to get Cade ready ASAP in case DJU continued to have issues is not like him. He usually has a plan for just about any reasonable development. His planning is one of his strongest traits, IMHO.

Pheebo
There is another possible explanation. He IS doing his best, but his goals are quite different from ours (and what his used to be).
