For me it started years ago when schools declared there were no failures in the classroom and sports leagues said there were no losers on the playing field. Life just does not work that way and there will be times that our teams get beat by a better team, not by excuses.

Because some people can’t open their mouths without something about religion or politics coming out of it. If we were just stick to football, everyone on here would be in a good mood most of the time. Granted, there has been some division over basketball, but I feel like it will be settled this year. Either Brad wins or he’s going to be fired.

He has won every season but one at Clemson so doubt he is in danger of getting fired assuming 18-20 wins

So many people live their lives in echo chambers and they use social media anywhere they can to simply yell at people. They’re not interested in gaining new knowledge or being exposed to new ideas, mostly they just want a place to yell at people because the endorphin rush makes them feel like they’ve owned someone else for a few fleeting moments.

I am fine with disagreement. I think of it as proof of diversity of perspective, which I consider to be a cornerstone of democracy. But when it boils over to the emotionalism and hostility, that is when I consider it to be counterproductive. The more that emotions rise, the less attention that is paid to empirical evidence and rational thinking - and those are even more important cornerstones to democracy (and civilization).
BTW, I think that the design of Tigernet inadvertently contributes to this divisiveness. If I agree with someone, I can just TU then and have my name added to the choir on that side of the issue. But if I disagree with someone, I have to make a disagreeable post to add my name to the argument. I think B-meist is still working on making TDers known to us, but I think when that happens, it has the potential for lessening negative posts.
