We deserve the Orange.

Dec 10, 2013, 8:35 AM

Sure, Clemson lost to Scar. But do not forget that Scar lost to UGA, who Clemson beat. So, who is to say who the overall better team is. After we beat OSU, we will be ranked in the top 8 and no one will be able to say we did not deserve to be there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why does no-one bring up that they lost to friggin' Tennesee

Dec 10, 2013, 9:45 AM

That sould keep them out of the top 10 IMO. Ironic the gamechickens are playing in what was the Citrus Bowl the bowl that Spurrier used to make fun of Tennessee attending every year. Spurrier-"You can't speel Citrus without UT." Karma served well done...

So much butthurt. You do realize that the only reason Clemson is in the Orange bowl is due to the ACC tie in to that bowl right? For goodness sake, I am sure they would have preferred to have two top 10 teams in the bowl rather than a team that can only beat up on high school talent level.

Oh, sorry I guess BC, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech etc... are world beaters. Once you finally admit that your conference has 2 (two) decent teams you will feel much better. Hey, you have a plan and it works. Good for you. You are in a weak ### conference & you & FSU can dominate it every year meaning that every now & then you get a decent bowl. Thing is, everybody else already knows this. Good luck vs OSU- they are gonna beat the brakes off you pretenders.

Re: You mean like Georgia?***

Dec 10, 2013, 11:32 AM

I'd say the ACC schedule we played in 2013 compares pretty well with the SEC schedule you guys played. The difference is we were able to win the games we were supposed to.

Maybe Spurrier should ask Dabo for some advice on how to keep his team motivated. He hasn't done such a great job of that the past few years.

All we can do is win the games on our schedule. I hate your argument because South Carolina fans scream "SEC!" all season and talk about how you are in the "premiere" college football conference and brag about all the national titles but then you complain when you get left out of the good bowl games every season. You can't have it both ways.

In regards to the UGA comparisons, home versus away usually means something. I think all reasonable men can agree UGA is a tougher win in Athens and SC was an underdog at Athens. I see both sides, both had great seasons. But H2H means something and add in the fact that SC beat four currently ranked teams, two of whom are currently BCS Bowl teams (CU and UCF)as well as top ten Mizzou on the road, and the case for whu SC is rated higher is a solid one. SC did not lose to any team on the road or at home by two plus TD's either. We can all be adults and congratulate both teams for tremendous seasons. Ten win teams are something to be proud of, and the State of South Carolina has two such teams this year.

There's no rule in place requiring the Orange to take Clemson. Clemson's conference affiliation clearly helped, but there's no rule.

Win the games you're supposed to?

Dec 10, 2013, 11:46 AM

So clemson won the games it's supposed to.... I guess that means clemson is no longer supposed to beat SC. Agree 100% zep. We may have lost 2 games we could have won, but how many good teams did your Tigers beat this year? Maybe 1?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Win the games you're supposed to?

Dec 10, 2013, 12:17 PM

Georgia. A team you lost to. We lost 2 of the 3 we needed to win but Florida State is just a much better team, the South Carolina loss hurt because I believe both teams were very even (unlike what your fans probably think) but mental mistakes killed ourselves. No excuses, but it's tough to win when you can't hold on to the ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This year I'd agree we weren't "supposed" to win in Cola

Dec 10, 2013, 1:54 PM [ in reply to Win the games you're supposed to? ]

SCar had an excellent team, and we played in Columbia. I'm not embarrassed that we lost that one and that we lost to the #1 team in the country. I'm not happy about it, but I'm not going to claim the season is a failure due to it either.

How many good teams did SCar beat? I'd say that you'd have to count Clemson as one, and Mizzou as the other. And since you lost to Georgia the week after we beat them, I think you'll agree they were a good win for us.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the orange bowl had zero obligation

Dec 10, 2013, 11:52 AM

To take Clemson. There was no tie in. fsu broke the tie in.

The 2 team rule automatically kept usuc out but did not get Clemson in.

If the at larges were able to take a 3Rd team, there is no guarantee they would take SC. You still have Missouri out there and a host of teams from other conferences.

Re: We deserve the Orange.

Dec 10, 2013, 4:29 PM

I think folks are missing the point when they talk about whether a team "deserves" or "doesn't deserve" a BCS bowl. The BCS is not about the "best" teams, or the most "deserving" teams. It is about the bowls handpicking the teams they want from the limited pool of teams available to them. Clemson should not feel bad at all for making the Orange Bowl.

The BCS is not about rewarding the most "deserving" teams in the nation. It's not about matching up the best vs. the best. The BCS is solely about two goals: 1. Money and 2. Making sure 1 conference does not dominate. The pool of teams available to the BCS is limited because these conferences got together and decided they didn't want one conference to get too many teams, no matter how many "deserving" teams got left out. And each big conference had to get their champion in, because no conference can get left behind, no matter how poor the team is (*cough* 2012 Big Ten Champ Wisconsin *cough*). So we end up with a pool of eligible teams that have some very questionable inclusions and some very unfortunate exclusions.

Then, the bowls decide who they're going to choose. Do they pick based on who is most "deserving?" Hell no. That isn't even a consideration. Instead, the bowls decide: Who will bring more fans to the game? Who will have more TV viewers? Which team is closest to our stadium? Which team are we being pressured to take? Which team has the most alumni on our bowl's board of directors? And on and on and on. Every reason under the sun, aside from anything actually pertaining to what happens between the lines of a football field.

Nobody at Clemson should feel "unworthy" of a BCS bowl. Because if you take a step back, you'll realize the BCS bowls have nothing to do with the "best teams" in the nation. The only reason these games have any sort of importance is because the NCAA has slapped the "BCS Bowl" label on them and expects the sheeples to put these games on a pedestal. The BCS, and the entire bowl system, is a series of glorified exhibitions, with no rhyme or reason behind the matchups. College football's postseason is the most pointless and meaningless exercise in all of sports.
