I’m disappointed this article didn’t say it like it is: The refs were negligent in their responsibilities at the end of the game. No question.
Now, that doesn’t mean earlier in the game the refs made good calls or missed some that favored us, etc, BUT if you see some phantom or love taps called earlier in the game and then see how Chase just got assaulted up to 4 times in the last 10 seconds, it’s not uncalled for to report it that way when you write an article. (Note: Check the end of the UL-Stanford game when the Stanford rebounder got hacked on the wrist that led to the errant pass and UL buzzer beater. No call.)
Calls should be consistent throughout an entire game, no matter what the situation or how much time on the clock.
Unlike the coaches and players, I don’t believe a reporter can get reprimanded by the refs, etc for voicing an opinion shared by most (see: Cory Alexander and Tim Brando).
We all saw how inconsistent and purely awful the refs were during this past college football season. The only way things get changed for the better is to call them out when they deserve it. I know they can’t be perfect and actually get most calls right, but something’s are so obvious, you can’t help but wonder if they (the refs) have at times ulterior motives….
