Who will be the #2 receiver behind Watkins?

Jul 30, 2013, 11:27 PM

My vote is for Charone Peak

Until shown otherwise

I have to pick Humphries. He's been the 3rd wide receiver for 2 years playing behind Watkins. Since Watkins has moved positions someone has to beat Humphries, and that will be no small feat. If it happens we are even better and deeper than I hoped.

Bryant

Receptions: Humphries. Yards: Peake.

Jul 30, 2013, 11:46 PM

That's my best guess. We're stacked at WR.

Peake, but yeah Humphries for receptions. well said. Martavius looks to be stepping up. We'll miss Ford a lot. He was a monster. He was better than I could have expected.

The Bigger Question Is "Will Watkins Be #1?"

Jul 31, 2013, 7:06 AM

Part of the answer to either question will be provided by the effort and skills of the individual WRs and our O-line, but a lot of the answer will be provided by opponents and which receiver they perceive as the greatest threat to them and what quality front-7 they have.

If they often play straight man coverage on Watkins without having a good pass rush, then Watkins may have a monster year. If they double or shade Watkins - or if they have a good pass rush, then Humphries may be the go-to guy underneath with Bryant or Peake running wild when pass blocking holds up. Don't forget about G-Hop..... he'll be making some noise very soon.

I do expect us to see more nickel coverage this year, which could open up the running game. It will be particularly interesting to me to see how UGAy sets their D against us. They like to use a 3-4, but will likely have to drop into a nickel to try to cover Humphries.

If we have a lick of a running game, we should give folks fits this year.

Guys like Sammy and Nuk find ways to get open. The opposing Ds and all their mothers knew that Nuk was getting the ball in big situations last year, and they rarely stopped him. Same with Sammy two years ago, and the same will occur with Sammy this year. They'll learn real quick that giving help to cover Sammy means being burned somewhere else, so eventually it will settle into man where they try and cover everyone, and then the playmakers will shine. I think Sammy will easily be our #1, despite the number on his chest :P

Best way to cover Sammy is, hope he falls down when they bump him. Imagine that;)

AFTER #2

Jul 31, 2013, 9:03 AM

Humphries, Mr consistent will have most rec & 1st downs
Bryant, Mr long TD. He will make the most highlights.
Peake, Mr 3rd conversion. Jaron Brown style
Hopper, Mr YAC. Nuff said.

Humphries till some else shows they can live up to their

"star ranking", but based on physical ability I'd say Bryant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

By mid season I would say Hopper

Jul 31, 2013, 10:10 AM

He might not can catch like adam but I think he is our best open field receiver on the team. Now im basing that around his highschool film but I really think he will be one our best WR on the team this year

I guess I can't list Bryant BEHIND Watkins, since he will be AHEAD of Watkins.

:) JK - but it could happen. Okay - I'll stick with Bryant as #2 since this poll won't allow him to be #1.

All of them!***

Smart money says Peake!

However, for those willing to gamble, the huge return on coaching investment per se is Martavis.

If that young man FINALLY gets it all together, it will get really ugly for the opposition.

Go Tigers!!!
