even with all their coaching hires, $ spent, desire to be a national player, adding new endzone & country club dining facility,..
and almost beating Clempson in that storied ACC game several years ago when refs messed up & caused them not to win.

They had some good teams in the few years around 1980 and again a couple of years around 1999 , but by and large their football program has largely mirrored the frustrations of the neighboring Dirtpeckers .

In all honesty, I believe the state of North Carolina is one of the toughest states to have a successful program. UNC competes with Duke, NCSt, Wake, ECU, etc. Recruiting elite local talent is almost impossible in NC with the numerous schools around. In addition, Clemson, UGA, UF, FSU, Bama, and LSU are pulling a lot of those guys out of there anyway. Tough position for UNC but NCAA violations don’t help either.

Clemson recruits against the same teams that UNC does except itself.
They just suck at football because all of their emphasis is men's basketball.

Won something. Anyway, football was the scapegoat to avoid too many questions on the BB side of the house. Their new plastic chairs will reduce capacity down to 45,000. That’s a total embarrassment for a school of their size.
