None of us are coaches. But why is it easy to see what the problem is?

Wes is the problem..

He looks like a guy who sales ice cream. He is NOT a man's man... it would be hard to get behind a guy that looks like that in a physical sport.

Dabo is NOT going to replace, I repeat, NOT going to replace Wes. He’s already said as much.
Wes and Conn are the defenses problem. imo

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ill take that bet.***

Idk about Conn

His safety group has been #### good for a few years now.

I'll be surprised if Dabo makes any changes at all. After all, he made the playoffs. Why would he.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly why some were not happy when Syracuse beat Miami.***

He made changes after 2022.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

While I support change, your post is silly.

1

Dec 22, 2024, 7:37 AM

Wes is not the problem. But, he is also not IMO - the solution.
You only have so many pieces to play. There is no magic wand.
Do you think that Wes told them not to tackle?
Do you think Wes has great talent just sitting on the bench that could stop the run and he knowingly chose not to play them?

I am for change just because I think the dense needs a different voice. The defense looks shell shocked and they need confidence.

2025 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wait. You think players either come in knowing how to stop the run or they dont

Dec 22, 2024, 8:16 AM

And the coaching they receive once on campus has nothing to do with it?

Spot on! Poor Roster

Dec 22, 2024, 7:50 AM

Management is the problem.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Spot on! Poor Roster

1

Dec 22, 2024, 8:01 AM

Roster management also depends on the players wanting to play for you. You can't just kidnap them and make them come here. We had five or six recruits leave this year's class. That tells you some other schools offer something more attractive, and we have to figure out how to counter that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And who's responsible for roster management?

Dec 22, 2024, 7:57 AM [ in reply to The problem is our Jimmys and Joes on defense arent that good.*** ]

1

Dec 22, 2024, 8:03 AM

The problem is more that just linebackers.

The buck also doesn't stop with Wes, because he's not the primary recruiter.

The fundamental problem is that elite talent doesn't want to come here like before, and that more than just Wes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bingo

Dec 22, 2024, 8:14 AM

We have a winner. Get used to 3 stars soon if we don’t figure out this NFL style management the big boys play

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Com'on man, are you saying we have the 70th best talent on defense.....

Dec 22, 2024, 8:30 AM [ in reply to Re: The buck stops with Wes. Besides the LBs are a hot mess.*** ]

..in the country?

Lots of teams would gladly trade our 2 deep. And that includes 44 (my God he sucks so bad).

Re: Com'on man, are you saying we have the 70th best talent on defense.....

Dec 22, 2024, 8:33 AM

We lack talent in certain areas, yes. We don't have the talent to be an elite defense, regardless of who is coaching.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Elite? Dude, they are ranked 70th!!!!***

Stop being overly emotional and actually read what I posted. I said they do not have the talent to be an elite defense.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It all falls on Dabo. He built it

1

Dec 22, 2024, 8:28 AM [ in reply to And who's responsible for roster management? ]

and he’s letting it fall. The same thing that cost Bowden his job is threatening Dabo, unwavering loyalty.

And that's not the problem. The players on the team are simply not as talented as in years past.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thats incorrect.

Dec 22, 2024, 9:20 AM

Their talent gap isn’t nearly as big as their development gap.

None of us are coaches but we knew in early October our starting RB was hurting the team because he was injured.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: None of us are coaches. But why is it easy to see what the problem is?

Dec 22, 2024, 11:02 AM

I have to agree that our 2 deep talent level is not what it used to be. Our starters aren’t elite at every position. The thing that separates most players at this level is the coaching of the fundamentals and the players being willing to take that coaching.
On defense you saw constantly DL & LBs out of their proper gaps, busted coverages in the LB & Secondary , bad angles of pursuit, losing outside contain, and poor tackling.
On offense you saw lapses in pass and run blocking. Pre Snap penalties are also a killer. Bad routes and dropped balls also killed many drives.
I have not coached at the college level and don’t strive to do so, but these are some basic things that I see as a 40 year HS Coach.

My 2 cents for what it’s worth. Have a great Sunday!
