Any bubby asked for a raise recently? Or ever?

1

Sep 29, 2023, 12:23 PM

I don't wanna leave but I could get a sizable jump if get a new job. What's a polite way of asking to pay me more for doing what you're already paying me to do or else you'll have to pony up when you hire a new person?

Do your research on comps for your positions elsewhere, compile, and present that data to your supervisor. If you come with proof you’re underpaid by market standards they should listen. I recently presented my employer with comps at similar businesses for employees with my experience and they gave me a 10% raise with no pushback. Still not as much as I could make other places, but they understand they can’t compete with regional/national businesses and laid what compensation they could out there. If you like your job express that you’re happy where you’re at, but at a certain point the money is hard to ignore.

And wants an above average wage for their job. In fact half of all workers are below average.

If you are on tigernet during working hours you are below average.

Get a box ... pack up some of your stuff ... make sure you are seen when you leave ... mention to multiple workers that you need to start looking for new employment ... preferably gossips.

Boss will come to you the next day and ask if you're doing okay.

they don't redo reviews or raises, until you ask. Very awkward.

You just have to be honest, but respectful. And straightforward. Don't hint, be blunt.

I need to look for ways to increase my income. I'm at the point in my career that I should be earning more than I am. I don't want to have to look for a different job, so do you think this is something you can help me with?

You probably need to be prepared to say how much.

And then threaten to burn down their house if needed.

I had a guy demand a 30% raise or he said him and the whole dept was going to quit.

We laughed a little, said no, and he didn't quit. Nobody else did either.

I fired him and everyone else slowly over the next few months.

4% in Mar 2022 and another 4% in Mar 2023 because everytang is more expensive.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That doesnt even cover inflation .

1

Inflation of what?

1

Sep 29, 2023, 3:55 PM

My largest expense is my mortgage and it hasn't gone up in years. So yeah, I'm making more if I only get 4% on my salary. It more than covered the cost of youtubetv going from $35/mo to $40/mo.

Come with data...

1

Sep 29, 2023, 1:59 PM

I'll listen to anyone that can present data and a reasonable case why an increase is warranted.

Phrase it like:

I am seeing opportunities open for my kind of job that pay more than I'm making now. Here is some data I collected (get data from sites like salary.com, etc...) which illustrate this. I like working for this company and I believe I am a good employee. What do I need to do to be paid $X here?

I may be the closest in that I have access to 500 job titles and pay data. I prolly don't have your (Tickles) title but if you want me to check it out I can try.

Staying never works.

Even if they agree they won't be happy about it.

Move for more money.

Tactfully explain that you want to make x and would like to have a conversation about how to get there.

Wait at least a week- Then you let them know you’re interviewing.

You will find out quickly if they want to keep you around
