Where do you get your hair cut?

Local barber with the spinning sign SportClips/GreatClips style place True salon
Hair cut at the local barber (same place I've gone nearly my entire life) has increased in price over the years.
I figured I'd give it a shot at a real salon. The price was a little more ($10 or so) and the quality was much better.
They offer High Life and PBR and everyone had tats and beards and it was hipster AF, but a good cut from a nice lady.
I decided to give it a whirl since I've also realized that I can get real pizza for the same price as having Domino's deliver me a steaming pile of carp.

preacher's wife is the owner and cuts my hair. She is straight smoke. Tats everywhere from a crazy past life. Only problem is if you get behind somebody getting their hair colored or whatever you call it.
She isn't as good as the other woman who closed shop a year ago. She looked like the bottom of an old shoe but she would use a straight razor on the back of your neck and use Seabreeze afterwards.
It was amazing.

With a Gillette 5 blade Pro Glide razor. The price is probably somewhere around 15 cents per haircut.

my barber charges 17 and I usually just give him 20. I don't have much hair it only takes him about 10 minutes. When I had long hair in high school and college I went to a salon. When I got my hair cut to get a job I still went to the salon for a few years. When my hair started thinning in my mid 40s I went to a barber. They are different and do a much better job now. My hair is mostly buzzed with a beard to my belly.

Years ago I went to a place here in Gangland on Rosewood called Charlie's. Old school barbershop. Rush Limbaugh on the radio. First come, first serve. Old and young dudes talking sports, politics, women, etc. Charlie would use a straight razor with warm shaving cream to shave the back of your neck. Like all good things Charlie passed on.
I go to Sports Clips now. I got my haircut just 2 days ago. A very nice, middle-aged, AA women has been cutting my hair for about 8-9 years now. Does a great job. $18 for the haircut. $9 tip. She's worth it.

Love the on-line check in. Also that is why I can get the same lady each time.
Use to get my hair cut at Martin's on Pine St in Spartanburg growing up. I would just go in and Mr Martin would cut it and I would leave. Seldom paid. Dad would drop in once and awhile and get a haircut and pay the tab. Nice!

Used to have a very good barber shop nearby with good prices.
Moved. Tried great clips and found a very good barber there who used to own his own barbershop in Tennessee but recently moved to SC. After that Great Clips store was closed for COVID tried another GC and found a halfway decent barber who would only charge me $5 for a haircut because I was a generous tipper. Not sure what happened to her and the rest of the barbers there suck and GC prices recently went up to $16 for a haircut. Next time I will just go pay $30 at Barelli or something.

But it irks me that they've steadily increased prices for the same simple cut over the years.
I let ex-Tkshe do it once, but she only knows the "put a single guard on the clippers and make everything one length" style.

Local barber shop. I think its $19 for the haircut. I generally tip $6 on top of that and feel like its worth it. There is one barber there who does a good job.
I've tried great clips/sport clips in the past and it was always a toss up as to whether it would be a good haircut or not.

Charles & Al's on College Avenue.
I would say it's a barber shop. Don't think I've ever seen a woman getting a haircut in there, but there are women who cut the hair ("barberesses"?) there. So not sure what name it technically falls under because I'm not an expert on how haircut places are categorized.

My bald ### gets shaved in the shower. That's my figurative bald ###, not literally my bald ###. I don't shave that in the shower.
I haven't paid for a haircut in about 7 years.

They've been cutting hair for 50 years now. I've been getting hair cuts there for 40+ of those years. Gubnah Mack Master comes in every now and then.
Let's see, there was Dee, then Nancy, then Kelly, then Carl, and now Ed.
I've never left there with a bad haircut. I tried Clemson House at Clemson once, and some other place near Nicks. And some other place. Ended up going home monthly for haircuts.

Sometimes at home Sometimes at barber in the hood (they know me/kids since the only white family that visits there) Sometimes at Great Clips Sometimes at Sports Clips for the shoulder massage Rarely at fancy hipster high-end place that serves alcohol (but charges a bunch)

#3 comb all over, then wife-of does back of my neck.
I haven't got my hair cut by anyone else in maybe 15 years. Last time I went was to a great clips and it was far worse than I can do on my own.
Used to go to a real barber back when I had a bit more hair.

Local barber shop

Heather (the owner) is a Gamecock who married a Bulldog, but she cuts good hair, so I forgive her. As a matter of fact, all four of the barbers in her shop cut good hair. It's one of the few places I don't mind walking in and waiting.

Side ?? - what was the name of the old barber at C-House?
Sep 17, 2021, 11:03 AM
|
|
Back when they had the shop in the lobby (time reference, mid- to late-90's).
He gave me a straight razor shave a couple times. Which was completely terrifying to watch his hand shaking as the razor was coming toward your face, but once it made contact solid as a rock and smooth as silk.

I’m scared to answer.

Because y’all might ruin the right answer. It’s Dunean these days. But only because Oney’s closed down. Oney’s was in Poe. I had the privilege of going there for my first paid haircut with dad. Went many years with pops as the old guys got older. They watched me get older too. Eventually you have to start paying for the drinks out of the machine! Went back after a decade away and only one was left standing. He cut hair everyday and spoke honest thoughts from behind the chair until the day his pacemaker failed him. Loved that place. After my last barber’s death, somebody else tried cutting hair at Oney’s. But as they were cutting my hair and offering a clean shave, they told me that they did funerals for a living. Didn’t feel so comfortable having a razor or scissors so close to my neck and head with someone who deals in death. And the haircut was a 4 of 10. But the old dudes were almost always 9 out of 10s. Sometimes you just can’t go home! Oney’s was the best ever. But Dunean gives you a taste of home!
