When was the last time you saw someone give

13

May 24, 2023, 3:09 PM

an arm signal when they were making a turn? I saw a guy stick his arm out the window of his car to signal a left turn on the Newberry Bypass last week and couldn't even think of the last time I saw that. Used to be a common thing for us old guys to see.

And .... yes I am bored - can't wait to get home and watch some Tiger baseball.

Do it on the motorcycle all the time, in addition to turn

signals on the bike... because drivers don't pay attention.

Others in my riding group do as well.

No in a car? Probably the early 80's since I saw that.

With automobiles nowadays the focal point is the rear lights doing the signaling.

The bigger question ...

4

May 24, 2023, 3:43 PM

who now understands those signals? I can almost guarantee that no one born in this century does.

It's not taught in the driver test anymore?

What percentage of people use a turn signal in a car ? It has gotten to the ridiculous point where I live.

In rush hour traffic, I REFUSE to let someone

merge in front of me unless they use a signal.

I can't remember the last time I saw someone use their turn signal in general.

For Good ole coggers like late JOE21 & I it was natural..

not sure about tiger kid.

The arm out the window or open convertible for the right turn signal was the hardest versus the easy straight-out arm maneuver for the left turn.

Had an English Ford that had little short turn lever arms come out between the two door frames which was neat.

Funny story. I was driving one of my cars at noon to fill up the tank. Get close to enterance of store to make a left hand turn. Stick my arm/hand out at level position and start to turn when SC HWP finest lights me up. I turn in and park out of the way. Trooper finally comes up to window and looks around inside.

I give him (real young guy) my reg/ins info. He said "I.m writing 3 tickets to you. 1. No turn signals 2 only one brake light working 3 not wearing a seat belt. I said OK. But. if you want to save yourself and HWP a lot of embarestment. let me explain something to you.

I WILL show up in court to defend myself. #1 I.m driving an antique 1937 Ford Tudor sedan. Ford did not make these cars with seat belts. They were not made with turn signals and they only came with ONE tail light. I stuck my arm out the window to give my signal but apparently you don't know what that means.

Well. this young man gave me back my docs and said have a nice day..
