Can confirm, have conference calls regularly with people in certain areas of Europe who are hardly ever on time.

I've had conf calls with Brazilians scheduled for 2pm. They join when they "feel" like it's 2pm. It's their culture and we just accepted that they don't live by the clock and it may be 3pm before they joined in.
Germans on the other hand... if it was scheduled for 10am, they were talking at 10:00:01 and didn't provide recaps for anyone who was late.

Actually it's called coddling people & making excuses for irresponsibility. Shame you yourself don't get it. As "the greatest generation" of this country continues to die out it shows. Your misguided idea of "respect for others" is just another glaring example of the problems of the downward spiral of our society. Respect for others is a two way street & being punctual for things is the least someone can do to show "respect for others". See how it's not "all about you"?

Free donuts for everyone! Especially tigernet. The government will pay for it.
That free donut just made your taxes go up $100. Got to have the donut administration.

Is this what people are upset about? "According to the answers, it is wrong for Alejandro to “politely ask the second group to apologize,” or explain that “in our country, 9:00 a.m. means 9:00 a.m.”"
Yeah, that would be pretty rude for "Alejandro" to do that. I certainly would never think of talking like that to someone where I work.

Brazil that "in our country 9 a.m. means 9 a.m." would potentially cost your company a multi-million dollar contract and get you rightly canned. I know it's hard for you, never having been outside the confines of Pumpkintown, to know how the real world works, but let's just say this entire thread is an active example of why liberals rightly assume Trump supporters are a pack of gullible, provincial morons.

Someone told me along time ago " If you respect a person's time, that means that you respect them". Nothing is more valuable in the scholastic and professional world. People that wear multi-hats and responsibilities - if you work for them, you better respect their time. Or they will find someone who does.

I don't expect people to show up on time. We (my house and the teams I've coached) have the 15 min rule. If you are 15 min early you are on time - If you show up "on time" you are late. I don't buy this crap. It's disrespectful towards people (even a group) when you are late.
Most seniors (in HS) don't take my period 1 class...they know - don't be late! People don't have to agree with me about it...

Wonder how those folks from other cultures managed to show up on time for their flights to the states and I guess they don't mind getting their paychecks late as well. They likely don't mind being late when it just inconveniences someone other than themselves.

Not Clemson! I would expect this from other places, but I thought we were different. Prez needs to hear from some people. This is not how we want to train the next gen.

It's not as bad as the title sounds. There is nothing wrong with tolerance and the class doesn't suggest that bosses have to excuse tardiness. This is race baiting and devisive.

What's wrong with this?

If you've travelled to other countries this will not come us a surprise. There are different customs and expectations in different cultures. While its great if someone honors ours, it would be wrong to expect an apology. If you need it to be different next time, say that.
If someone suggest they are not being treated fairly based on a possible underlying prejudice, why is it wrong to suggest a moment of self reflection. It also is logical that the HR Dept be made aware in case there is a complaint to follow.
Nothing to see here.
