Dabo Swinney is an excellent college football coach, and he has brought unparalleled success to Clemson that I will forever be grateful for, but… Clemson is no longer in college football. It is in semi-professional football. This is not the same sport that Dabo coached in before 2020. The time of sitting down with parents and recruits, focusing on getting veterans snaps, and hiring and promoting from within are dead. A lot of older fans will agree with this and say that it no longer feels the same. To that I say the same thing I would tell Dabo: get out of the way and let the new guard be in this sport if they’re ready to play
He is too set in his ways and very slow to adapt. He once stated that he'd hang it up if the players started to get paid for play. Well, he is still here after 5 years of it and enjoying the 11M+ a year while employing his sons, but only using two portal players of note ( only one starter) as his developmental staff has failed.
Oh, the 10 win, 9 win, season streaks gone. Looking more and more like a 5-6 win season, 7 at best. So, can't use that rear view talk anymore.
He said in his post game interview it feels like 2010. Tough break with Cade out, the better team today won. You can’t win a football game when you can’t run the ball even with a jumbo package. 2 of the best plays from receivers I have ever seen. Defense can’t get off field. Our much acclaimed interior D line was porous, and linebacker play SLOW. At end of game down only 6, defense looked gassed and uninspired.
