What is the requirement for how often you have to play on

Sep 18, 2015, 8:54 AM

Thursday night? I swear it seems that we have had to play twice our share of Thursday games the last few years. Will we ever have a year when we rotate out of this?

It is the best exposure you can get. Good or bad

You are the only team every one is watching.

I dare say most teams beg to be on Thursdays.

There Probably is an acc/espn requirement.

not anymore with Thursday NFL games

Sep 18, 2015, 9:19 AM

nationally, college football can't compete head-to-head with NFL.

I was talking about this with a co-worker...

I'm sure there is some requirement, and it seems like the ACC gets more of these games than any other conference. It's the only (CFB) game on and the exposure is through the roof - it's great for the winning team.

But the risk outweighs the reward, IMO. Such a short turnaround, and the overall record for the traveling team is abysmal. I'd be okay with it if we could get a home game on a Thursday night, but we all know that's not happening. So - I'd be okay if we could just avoid these from now on.

The only bonus is now my Saturday is freed up, so I can party and focus my energy on watching the gamecocks get smoked 70-3.

I'm tempted to give u a TD...

We will likely play on Thursday more than any other

Sep 18, 2015, 9:12 AM

we don't like to have a Thursday game at home, so we get to play on Thursday on the road. And we are the draw. Folks won't watch WFU/Duke on Thur night but Clemson vs WFU/NCSU etc are attractive. GT and VT like playing at home on Thur night so we can't really compare those.

I don't have a problem with the Thur game, but they shouldn't make any team play on a 5 day turn around.

Playing on Thur isn't the problem. Playing on Thur AFTER

Sep 18, 2015, 9:25 AM

playing on the previous Saturday is the problem.

It seemed like the powers-that-be had been scheduling teams off on the previous Saturday. Not any more, I guess.

would like to se thursday breakdown by conference

Sep 18, 2015, 9:33 AM

I have a suspicion that most games are midlevel matchups that generally ignore top 10 teams. The need for "exposure" is attractive to teams that don't already get an abundance of it. For this reason, I've felt that Thursday games were kind of an insult. Saturday night games are exceedingly superior.

Also, teams should only be eligible to play Thursdays after a bye week. These short weeks are brutal.

Victim of our own success

Sep 18, 2015, 9:38 AM

We're under obligation to play a Thursday game at least every couple of years. We draw a crowd both at the stadium and on the television, so we're going to get picked for them more often than teams like Cuse or Duke. Clemson hates playing Thursday home games, so we end up playing them away a lot.

Thursday night games to open the season should not even

Sep 18, 2015, 11:15 AM

count in the statistics. There is no short week involved, in fact just the opposite, too much time to prepare. I realize the Thursday games are set up to be a ratings bonanza for ESPiN, but the wealth should have to be shared equally amongst all teams in a conference, or in the Power 5 in general. I wonder what the percentage of "upsets" on Thursday / Friday night short week games is vs regular Saturday games overall. I'm sure some of the computerly inclined can probably dig up this info.
