Ever watch Moneyball?

.Wes Goodwin = Jonah Hill's character(Pete) whom was based on Paul Depodesta

Paul Depodesta helped to revolutionize analytical baseball with the A's and Billy Beane.

He eventually was made Manager of the LA Dodgers and given a fat budget. Under Depodesta the Dodgers saw it's worst season in half a century while he was manager.

He was fired but then went on to advise the Red Sox who won the World Series with his methods.

"When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car."

"I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it."

One of my favorite sports movies.

Wes is an analytics guy...

but I think that's where the similarities stop.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Read the book.***

Haven't seen the movie but I'm familiar with the story. The same can be said of Chad Morris in a similar fashion. He's an analytical guy. If I remember correctly he was a math major and got his start in athletics as a successful basketball coach. There's a places on teams for those type roles but so far they haven't succeeded as "the guy" that I'm aware of. I've been told numerous times by folks in and around CU over time that some of Venables success was because of WG. Best of luck to him wherever he lands. He'll be fine.

He was. He was the first adopter of full analytics in baseball but he basically

put his faith in the concepts and advisement of his assistant GM Paul Depodesta.

Been a long time since I saw it and clearly I was half conscious.

The difference being Depodesta-Beane-Bill James were somewhat successful.

And again, Phillip Seymore Hoffman steals every scene he's in. With a memorable line I'm sure every Tiger fan was applying to Wes:

"You are outside your mind!"

I thought it was "You're out of your depth!"

But I'm too lazy to look it up.
