"Monochromatic" is a pretty complicated word to use around here. You may need to help us out with a definition, but by the context I assume it's a sophisticated term meaning "orange britches". It took us a while with the word "lugubrious" a few years ago too.

Think he is speaking more to the primary color top and bottom. Most schools had all white away unis prior to 1980, including Clemson.
That said, I think some HBCUs had some all primary color unis before 1980. Not sure about major schools though

We’re we the first to wear all primary color uniform (I’m not referring to all white)
We wore all orange for the first time in 1980. I think we were the first to wear pants that matched our colored jerseys.

I’m not referring to all white. We wore all white on road games a long time ago. All teams did.
