Of enjoying our Tigers before I just walk away, it’s becoming more and more pointless to follow. The cases of following your teams players their entire careers is going to be extremely rare. Playing for the school use to mean something but once again money absolutely ruined that. Oh well at least it’ll save me a ton of money, time, and some grey hairs.

but this "new" era of college football has taken a lot of the excitement out of things.
I'll just cheer harder for the Seniors on Senior Day!

I don't care about it nearly as much as I did 2-3 years ago. It has gotten stupid. If I miss a game now it's no big deal... I'll watch the replay later. I understand the players getting the money while it's there. I would probably do the same if I were in their shoes. The no rules Portal and no rules NIL are completely ruining the college aspect of the game. Oh well... Go Tigers!!!

Yep what’s the point of spending thousands a season when you never know who’s going to be on the team each year??? I get the money part if used the way it was intended but to just be able to leave whenever you want is wild to me. There’s a reason I’ve always preferred CFB over the NFL and now it’s gone so what’s the point 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Exactly Mjc3194® You aren't alone. I use to like college more than pro as well. I am 100% the opposite now. Except when it comes to Clemson athletics.
I could watch college football religiously all day. But now, not so much.
If I want to watch pros; I wait until Sunday afternoon. Outside of Clemson, again.
People use to say: "the college kids play harder"! LOL! Always made me laugh, especially that line about them playing for the love of the game"!
Which at some point may have been true. I just don't believe it was ever just that. Even back in the day; they played hard so scouts would notice them. And, there were always "green giant handshakes"!
But, it's to the point now, some of the spoiled entitled mentality people criticize professional athletes for is creeping into or most certainly will creep into college. Some of these kids lose that edge when they get to them: "a lot of money"!
In 5-years we won't recognize it. I am so thankful to Dabo and company for winning the NC when they did. I've seen Clemson lift that trophy 3 times in my lifetime. Most people my age haven't even seen their team make the playoffs or a BCS game. I'm blessed and Clemson Tigers fans should feel blessed.
It's not the same.

Bad response. If a team doesn't perform well, fans aren't as interested. Without fans, college football basically doesn't exist.

A lot of people may see your post as being a bit dramatic but I completely understand where you are coming from. I don't look forward to much during the year, a few hobbies here and there but Clemson football Saturdays were always a bright spot, no matter how stressful watching them may be at times lol. I still enjoy watching but I fear what makes college football great and different from the NFL is quickly eroding away and it breaks my heart

I think the problem is the way the post is worded. The problem worh the portal/NIL stuff is that it makes your team worse, and it's simply not as enjoyable to watch.
The first casualty is the bowl games. There isn't motivation to go watch your team play in a bowl game without their best players. Why would any Southern Cal fans, for example, want to go to a bowl game when your team is probably going to lose since their best player won't play?

Speaking of players not playing in bowl games, what’s changed to now from 20 to 25 years ago?
Michael Vick, one of the best college quarterbacks ever and in a season where he had a few injuries, played against our Tigers in the 2001 Gator Bowl. Then there’s Eli Manning playing in the Cotton Bowl 20 years ago.

My thought is there's really no reason to play a bowl game anymore unless you make the top 4 playoff. So many players going and coming you really don't have a team together. I say bag it and we'll see you next August.

It's a bad risk reward ratio for both players and fans. For fans, yiu spend all that money when you team is going in the game shorthanded, and has a greater chance of losing.
For the team, you risk losing to an inferior team because you lost your best players, and they didn't. The reward of winning a mediocre bowl over a mediocre team is a lot less than losing to said team.

Free agency was the beginning of the death knell for me in pro sports.
And, look where we are today in pro sports.
Fantasy leagues. Betting on individuals. Many, most?, fans now cheer for players more than they do teams. If a player moves from team A to team B, his fans still remain fans of him.
A QB throwing for 3 TDs is more important than his team winning. "He's on my fantasy team. He really helped me out."

that you give money to IPTAY to provide scholarships for these players so they can go to school and get an education, housing, meals and a stipend. That's a cool premise until they get their free education in three years and bolt. I am with you, I am about to take my IPTAY contribution down to the bare minimum to get my tickets and a crappy parking spot, and it may not be long after that I just throw in the towel completely.
