Clemson was once a member of the Southern Conference....

Had we stayed behind where would be now? Playing in a non BCS conference against local teams. I am sure that would have made the Dirt Peckers happy. Travel for those of you not willing to go far would be great! Furman, The Citadel, App State, WCU, etc.
A warning for those of you wishing to stay in the ACC no matter what-History repeats.

As I read somewhere...
It was a split, no one "left". The Savannah River was selected as the boundary between Southern and Southeastern at that point.

Sematics. Georgia et al were previously members of the Southern Conference. Now they aren't. No NCAA teams of significance are currently members of the Southern Conference. The same fate is lining up for the ACC, like it or not. Wake in 10 years will not be a Div 1 program, sorry. And I like and respect Wake greatly. What path will Clemson follow?

My point was that they split because the SouCon had become too big and unyeilding. However, the ACC schools LEFT the SouCon due to conflicts (much as I feel CU should do now w/ ACC).
I old enought to remember when the current SouCon (and others at that level) were all still considered DIV-I schools (no sub-divisioning), and all games counted towards the bowl count.

Alabama, Auburn, and a bunch of other present SEC schools were in it too.
Ironically, Sewanee University used to dominate the SoCon, Clemson was very competitive too.
