He’d have to make the elite 8 to change my mind, and it would still be a 1-year contract.

How many Clemson basketball coaches have ever had us first in the ACC?
Let me know how many times Rick Barnes and Oliver Purnell had us first in the conference. I’ll wait.

Bill Foster is my favorite Clemson basketball coach. He did a lot with what he had, and in a time when the ACC ruled college basketball.

Cliff Ellis did. Won a whole regular season title. CBB has a slim 1/2 game lead slightly past midway through the season. Keep playing like they played yesterday, and he'll be lucky to finish at 0.500.
CBB's team this year has played good ball for a number of games. But they've crapped the bed three times (SCAR, Loyola-Chicago, BC) and played at the level of their opponents 3-5 times and barely eked out a win in games that should not have been close.

Also, I'm pretty sure both Barnes and Ellis "led" the ACC after a few games more than once. CBB does have the lead farther into the season than they held it, but now that he's dropped this game, there's plenty of time to revert to the norm, and another 1-game-above-.500 season is not out of the question.
I'm going to keep pulling for the team and keep hoping they win every game even if it means CBB sticks around for a few more years. But stop blowing smoke up everyone's back side that CBB is turning the corner and has built a program to take us to the promised land. He's far more like Coach Cutcliff at Duke football: second level team at the school (we all know basketball is king there), well respected amongst his peers, he does a decent job, sometimes overachieving (played in one ACC championship game, and made 6 bowl games going 3-3), doing things well enough to be kept around for more than a decade. But even he got canned after 14 years.

that discussion or decision. We lost tonight because we turned the ball over 17(?) times and shot miserably from everywhere, except the foul line. 16 of 16 there, which is a stat I don’t recall seeing in my 40+ years of Tiger hoops fandom. Please call me, Tim Bourett. It was ugly. But in fairness to the man I have argued should be fired every spring for 5 or 6 years, you can’t coach your way out of 17 to’s and 20%’ish from the field. We do seem to have trouble recently with getting the ball inside. But, generally speaking, they have moved the ball well inside, scored a bunch of points and used the inside-out to help us from three. Don’t disrespect the exceptional basketball we have seen from these young men by starting this convo now, in the middle of their opportunity to do historic things for a Tiger hoops, They were picked to be 14th in the league and remain in first place with 8 games to go. I think we finish out 5-3 in-conference, win a couple of games in both tourneys and intend to enjoy it. Then in late March/early April, we SHOULD have the discussion of what 13 years looks like.

Totally agree. Splitting hairs but we were picked 11th. Point taken and very well said. Nows not the time. But as someone else said, no matter what, don't get all giddy and do something stupid like contract x or a raise.

I think that comment is 100% right. We should wait, but let’s look at 13 seasons when deciding where we want to go, not one every 13.

But when we talk about good coaching and how they move the ball around and score from multiple players and win games...when none of that happens, that falls on the coaching staff just as much as it does the players. CBBs the one that has to call timeout, say the right things, change the players on the floor, call better sets, bench someone or several someones for a spell to get their minds right, work the refs.
Did anything like that happen? Oh, we played zone for 2 minutes. And he called timeout when we got down by a dozen. But nothing changed.

I am not against Brownell. But one data point without a fundamental shift in how we got there - the play still tells me that the prior 12 years are what we can expect in the future with BB. It is outstanding season to this point. The issue is the big picture - not the season. When Tyson and JP leave, what in recruiting or coaching tells us that this year is anything other than great single season? If we are all happy with a single season every 13 years - then BB is our guy. If not, it is time to change leadership. Yes, I understand we might get worse. It could happen. But at least we would be doing something to build a program. Staying in the upper bottom to mid ACC is not a place I want us to be. Especially with a horrid ACC. Those that try and defend the ACC are off base. They flashed a stat during the Duke game last night. Since the 1950s - Duke and unc has only played 6 times when one was not ranked. 3 in the 50s, and 3 in the past couple of years. ACC has at the moment, 3 teams ranked. Only 1 in top 15, 2 in 20-25. Unfortunately, due to Clemson having a couple of bad losses and a weak schedule, we might dropout again despite good record numbers. I personally think we belong in top 25.

there with arms folded - no fire - no passion. He sucks.
We’d go down, pass around the perimeter and throw up 3’s that weren’t falling. The couple of times we quickly tried to go inside, it was a turnover or a double team bad shot.
Call time out and work on setting up an inside out play, or something to combat what they were doing.
Just terrible.

Lives are the first day of football season and the day after a bad loss in basketball. You guys love these days. I don’t care what the sos is this ain’t the year. If he’s as bad as you guys think then he’ll have a year where the ineptitude is undeniable.
They just couldn’t score last night. Plenty of good shots to get back in it. Made the majority of our free throws.

Finally a rational hater. I appreciate the fact that you did not make up a narrative that Brad is terrible or act like a new coach will transform a program which is underperformed for a hundred years. You are simply tired of Brad and willing to risk wrecking the program which appears to be on an upward trajectory.
Personally I think your honesty is a breath of fresh air!

Baring a total collapse, Brad will be back next season. He's having one of his best season's he's ever had. Plus, he has a good group coming back next year. It would surprise me if Clemson let's him go. So again, he's doing just good enough to hang on.

I'm willing to let it play out and see how it ends but I'm still where I was before. If he makes the Big Dance he deserves another year but not another extension. If he makes it again next year, then we can talk about an extension. If the team is as good as advertised and maintains a strong nucleus for next year, I don't think that is an unrealistic expectation. He still has 3 years on his existing contract after this year and no, it does not impact recruiting by waiting another year. Coaches and players come and go all the time in college basketball.
