bumbles the ball 3-5 times and it’s like he was on the field involved in their travesty of a sad joke and terrible execution.

The man has defied odds over his entire life and risen to the pinnacle of college football in every way considered epic (from his success of monumental wins, # of championships won & unimaginable income)..

and his team loses a game on national TV that they were picked to win easily by 12 points but didn’t..

and he’s now a failure, a dud, a hypocrite, a bible pusher, a fraud, behind the times, needs to quit, etc.

Listen up Clemson Tiger Fans, as in loyal & grateful fans!

Don’t succumb to this rubbish talk from outsiders who may be jealous, have an agenda, hate religious acting or speaking people, dislike Clemson for various reasons, want to tear down over one game what he/staff/players have accomplished over 15 years.

Stand tall & stand firm.

Go TiGERS!

Why not? It’s not like the separation of church and state. Why can’t a man of faith discuss his faith publicly? It would actually be hypocritical if he didn’t.

I considered canceling this site after the Duke loss because of many reasons, but I decided to stay because of Dabo and his faith. He’s an inspiration to those of us that try to live a Christian life in a dark, dark world.

Ok Dabo 100% not a megalomaniac. Not usually a coot caller but obviously you’re a coot if you think that. That being said I definitely don’t think I’d go as far as to compare Dabo to Christ. As I’m sure Dabo would point out, he and all of us, would fall woefully short. But there is a point to be made. Many hope he fails because if he does it makes them feel better about what they do to succeed.

Another misrepresentation of Dabo's character. You know nothing about his motives for hiring assistants. I'd bet a month's salary it isn't for the reason you assert. He hires who he believes will be the best fit and coach us to success. He built this program from the ground up. Do you really think he'd let it die on the vine purposefully or for some sort of egomaniacal reason you present? I don't think so. Clemson football's success is tied directly to Dabo and he will not let it die on his watch. Step back from the ledge and quit trying to assassinate the character the best Clemson coach in history.

Credit Saban for doing this numerous times, credit Dion for doing it for at least teh first game. Dabo didn't pull it off and we looked bad. The buck stops with Dabo. It's all his, it comes with the territory. But there's time to see if he can right the ship. This week won't prove much . . but in a few it will show. Trust at this point.

I whole heartedly believe that if would have had someone, anyone who was actually capable of developing the WR talent that we've had the past 2-3 years, our offense would look like a real and productive offense. Whe a QB has ball after ball land in his WRs hands and they drop it, it causes your QB to over adjust to try and make a perfect throw, and none of our QBs, DW4 or TL16 threw perfect throws every time, but we had well coached WRs that just needed for them to get it close, and they would go get it. That is not true today or yesterday, the balls are hitting them in the hands, and most are being thrown to where our WRs of the near past would have caught and turn them into positive plays. I would be happy with any WR coach that has proven experience of developing WRs, BUT, Jeff Scott is close, so why not make an offer to him that he can't refuse bc he was putting WRs in the NFL as elite draft choices, Amen!!!

In his 12th year at Alabama, Coach Bryant’s team was 6-5-0, the worst year of those first 12.

In his 13th year the Crimson Tide was 6-5-1 … again the worst year of his time as Coach there.

Bryant coached some more national champions … at Alabama.

I am unconcerned about Coach Swinney and the team he coaches.

Re: UNREAL..a Coach, Christian at that, is crucified after his fb team

I have to agree with your statement mainly bc of some of his coaching hires over the past 2-3 years. I think those hires was made by a man that actually thought whatever choice he made would prove to be a good a choice, and that didn't happen. Now the team has to depend on Dabo's willingness to correct a couple of mistakes he made.

That is what I believe has happened, and now those things need fixing, and they can only be fixed by the same coach that made a ton of great choices before he made a couple of not so good choices, and he really shouldn't feel any shame bc of it, just corrects them and everybody will feel that he is still the coach that turned our Clemson Tigers into an elite National Championship winning team!!!!

Bill, you know how people will pile on. It happened

9

Sep 7, 2023, 4:58 AM

at Clemson back in your and my time there in the 60's against none other than Frank Howard.

I heard it, saw it right in the tin cans after losses, when students would gather, raise hellll about the games, sometimes coming close to fistfights. Difference then was there wasn't all the social media to spread the word, so to speak, for all to see. Secondly, there was a little more respect shown in those days toward others.

Howard used to joke after his retirement, saying he resigned due to health reasons: "The alumni were sick of me!" Truth be told, there was a glimmer of reality in that joke, as the 1960's had been mostly mediocre years for Clemson football.

Nowadays, we have every other Tom, D*ck and Harry posing as "experts," trying to make a buck off their opinions, and the more obtuse the opinions, the more bucks they make. That certainly is a truism throughout the media. Want proof? Look no further than ESPN, that originally began as a network for all to view sporting events. Now, they have the likes of that pickle-headed, partisaned polecat, Paul Pukingbomb, ruling the airwaves, for God's sake. Unfortunately, for all, real journalism is dead in sports, as it is in media. It's all about the money, and who can create the most assinine controversy to make the most money. Who's paying for it? Why, us, of course.......

Longtime loyal fan and season ticket holder here…I have defended Dabo this week because I know that the man will not cheat to improve the football team. I have also been critical of Dabo because his team has developed a pattern of poor play. Dabo and his coaches have got to be held accountable and improve the product that they are putting on the field. The only thing that I wanted to hear Dabo say this week is that “the buck stops with me”. Correct me if I missed it but, I have not heard him take responsibility. Dabo and his coaches had enough talent to win the SC, Tenn, and Duke games but did not do their jobs. I am hoping that Dabo is behind the scenes chewing some coaching behind, starting with his own.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This off-season he better hire new coaches!

4

Sep 7, 2023, 7:01 AM

It is time to end the on-the-job learning charity cases and get some real, proven, professional coaches in her and in a hurry who can assess talent better and the develop them to be top notch NFL guys!

The culture has gotten soft! If you are not a winner, you are a loser. Do better! That is the prevailing message these players need to hear.

And if you don’t have the passion and drive to win every down, every snap and every match up and make it to the NFL, then what are you doing here? Sure, you may fall short of that goal, but at least have that as your goal! We need hungry players. Too many of our guys are complacent. Where is the fire and desire?

So this is what Dabo must rekindle and re-cultivate. If Best is the Standard, then winning has to be the #1 priority. Pure and simple.

After that we can all go to church and say Amen!

Sep 8, 2023, 11:37 AM [ in reply to This off-season he better hire new coaches! ]

It all began with Dabo by AllIn, lets just get back to AllIn and go from there all over again bc, everything that needs fixing with toughness, play calling, developing, the whole ball of wax can't be fixed with just one game into the season, and I think that it will have to be based on getting better one game at a time until end of season to where he can make any necessary changes, and stay on his coaches butts to do whatever their best can accomplish bc they are being paid to do at least that much. But for anybody to expect/think that it can be fixed by the time we've played the next two powder puff teams, I think you will be disappointed. Duke is a decent team, but I don't think they're anything close to the teams we would have to play against if we got more lucky than good up to the playoffs. The top 6 teams by the time the playoffs start, there maybe one chump that made it past their schedule and got that far, but they will never get close to the championship game!!!

Re: This off-season he better hire new coaches!

Sep 9, 2023, 2:35 PM [ in reply to This off-season he better hire new coaches! ]

Very well said. As too many seem to not grasp, much of the critism is not just for the Duke game but the deteriorating performance over several years.

I am not a frequent commmenter here but I will say again what I have said before: It is not disloyalty to be critial of Dabo and the team. In actuality, it is just the opposite. Objective criticism comes from those who hold Clemson to higher standards and are unwilling to accept anything but the best. We critics are saying that this should be an exceptional football program and in so doing hold the program in the highest level of esteem possible. That is a much more favorable view of Clemson than that of those who are willing to accept anything that happens.

Regardless of all of thw whining about the "disloyalists" the objective critics are not going anywhere.

Absolutely, and that was something that he did do when he was coming up and learning how to become a good HC. He was always the first to say that he was the HC, and it was his responsibility to make the necessary adjustments/corrections, and I don't remember hearing anything about the team being totally his responsibility and he is the chief of the tribe....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: is tommy west available

Sep 8, 2023, 12:07 PM

The whole truth is, is that it's the position coaches that develops every player at every position. Even the two coordinators are position coaches. Coordinators make the plans of who plays where and when, and he has to make time to evaluate the job the position coaches are doing with their players, and if they're not experienced in making those evaluations daily and discuss the progress with his position coaches, and he hasn't done his job when you see players in the game that's always out of position, tackling poorly, taking wrong angles, it's Dabo's job to learn why that is happening when he sees it happening in the game, or on the game tape, and a good HC doing his job won't listen to many excuse before he reacts. I don't know all the obligations that Dabo has on a daily bases, but maybe he needs to appoint someone to care of some of those obligations and get back to being the HC that he was growing his Natty teams.

Outsiders criticizing Dabo need to ####, but alumni and

1
1

Sep 7, 2023, 6:48 AM

Boosters have every right to criticize him over this loss and the last two years quite frankly. The results are all that matter. Whether he is a Christian, a two time natty winner and a good guy matters not.

This team has gotten soft. That should be obvious to even Dabo at this point. They don’t have that street fighter mentality and desire on the field of play anymore. Well, Will Shipley does, but that is about it. Why is that? What is causing that? Recruiting the wrong talent? They may be 4 amd 5 stars, but they don’t have that “dog” in them. They are too nice, too goody two shoes like.

Or is it player development by the assistant coaches who are too busy learning on the job and patting themselves on the back?

Just watch how Colorado plays. Those boys play hungry. FSU too. Heck, Duke played hungry! A bunch of 2-3 stars giving a bunch of 4-5 stars a run for their money! That is culture right there. That is the difference in having a winning culture! Truly when Best is the standard!

So Dabo needs to get back to making winning the #1 priority and live up to a phrase he preaches, Best is the Standard!

That means getting in proven assistants who can assess talent and develop players who are hungry and have street fighter passion to be top NFL picks. He has gotta stop hiring on-the-job training assistants. They can learn at Vandy or FAU or somewhere like that. But at Clemson, you must be top notch and proven! No more charity cases.

And players who are recruited but don’t strive to become starters, they need to face the reality that we may hit the portal to address the fact that they are a bust recruit. Simple as that. We are here to win championships. This is big time college football, not Wofford or Francis Marion.

So yes, the criticism is deserved and Dabo needs to feel the pressure. After all he built this expectation. He should relish getting this fixed and proving the naysayers wrong… AGAIN!

Dabo is our best option to get anywhere prominent in college football. Who is coming here? To the ACC? That would elevate our program higher than what we have? Think hard b/c there is a 90% chance that we will fall off the map for years and years the moment Dabo leaves.

Yeah your mad and your disappointed b/c the product hasn't been CFP dominant like it was 5 years ago but the man who made it happen then is still here and has the experience to know how to get it done again. Can you not give the man some grace and leeway for the lean years too? Fickle. Fickle is this fanbase currently.

I'm not happy about the Duke game. Not happy about the trend of our team lately. But Dabo is the man for the job. Any other method is laughable. Saban isn't coming here. Kirby isn't coming here. Tom Osbourne isn't coming back to coach here. Ya'll gotta get a grip and understand the complexity of college football. Ebbs and flows are the only thing you get bet on. We need playmakers and alot of this goes away. Recruiting is the main need right now at key positions. X's and O's are fine but alot of that goes away with jimmy's and joe's.

Well, that coach, a Christian, is getting paid around 10MM a year to produce a championship level every season. Is what you saw Monday a championship level team, or more of the same old same old of the past 3 years now?

Like it or not, this program is on a rapid decline from the championship level on a national stage we recently had. It’s really sad and frustrating to watch. All glory is fleeting, and we are squarely in the crosshairs of going back to mediocre Clemson of the 90’s - 2000’s. It took 20 years to recover from the mismanagement of the football program from the administration after the Ford debacle. We don’t want to go through that again.

Only one team has won more nattys than Clemson the past 10 years. Swinney has won two in the past 7 years. Played in 2 more. He ended a 35 year drought. Amazing for a little place in the upstate of SC that was a textile mill community for a 125 years. Awesome. Thanks coach. The story isn’t over ….

I didn't know Clemson ever had a textile mill...except for that one Springs plant on the outskirts. Now my hometown had about a dozen....but no institution of higher learning that's for sure

Counterpoint. I’d be willing to bet most coaches in America are Christians and those Christian coaches are using the transfer portal that God sought to provide. If a man has been taught how to fish and refuses to eat, well…

but his being a Christian is irrelevant. He is a head football coach, criticism comes with every loss, that is what he signed up for when he took the job.

the coach and his football team deserve criticism..

This team was not prepared at all. that is on dabo, period. that is his job, if best is standard, he is not meeting the standard. this has nothing to do with the man personally. Most people on here are criticizing Dabo the coach, not Dabo the man.

This has nothing to do with Dabo’s faith. As a Christian, I absolutely love how he adds faith to his coaching philosophy. However, on the field performances matter more than off the field performances, which Dabo has seriously disappointed with recently.

I agree that there is a lot of jealousness being directed at Dabo. But don't think he's being persecuted because of his religion. That's a bit of a stretch. I would say its more of his values with the portal and earlier opinion of paying players that's hurting him.

Still, all this vitriol directed at him is too much. He's a solid dude who doesn't deserve it.

disagree with your assumption that this national criticism has nothing to do with religion or Christianity.

If you keep up with politics & know who owns companies like ESPN & Disney, etc then you might see a correlation or understand that they are basically anti-religious, anti-Christian, anti-right, anti-Conservative (IMHO) and thus Dabo and Clemson are a target.

Also, understand it’s possible they exhibit their feelings & hidden agendas behind that veil in their rants and/or actions. Saying, just be aware!

Please Stand firm for Dabo (even if he’s stubborn but that can change & has) and especially if you believe he’s a finer human being that the ones putting him down but especially stand firm for Clemson Football and more importantly for Clemson Univ!

Please stop with making him the Jesus of college football and being crucified. Dabo would not even like this. He’s a human with faults, just like all the rest of us. He also makes close to $11 million/year. He’s paid to succeed, not be a martyr. He and all of his fans should also have thick skin when he is criticized for not living up to the standards that he, himself, has set.
He’s not being criticized for being a Christian. He’s being criticized for not preparing his team. And it’s a far cry from being “crucified”.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo isn't being criticized because he's a Christian.

Sep 7, 2023, 10:14 AM

He's being criticized because his teams have underperformed for several seasons in a row, losing to teams he shouldn't. His team has gone from a playoff fixture to outside the top 10.

The fact that he has made questionable hires recently, coupled with what seems to be poor player development as well as being an outspoken critic of the transfer portal and NIL, makes him an easy target.

With all due respect, I think mixing football and religion is like mixing politics and religion. It’s very misguided. Dabo is a multimillionaire football coach, who makes his millions by coaching young men who he knows will sustain brain injuries. Politicians are elected to set policy, not favor one religion over another. They need to be separated, but this seems to be a hard thing for many, many people to do. It seems to be a growing problem in sports, as every coach now gives the credit for every win to God. What happens when you lose? Did you fall out of favor with God? Were you being punished for some sort of sin? It doesn’t make any sense. God has no place in sports. If a team goes 1-11 does that mean they weren’t religious enough?. I think it’s sending the wrong message. I’m not being critical of your post, it’s just food for thought. I think sports, like politics, needs to get away from the God talk. God doesn’t help our receivers get open, or our green assistant coaches suddenly gain experience. What wins football games is constant self-scouting in addressing your needs through recruiting and coaching schemes . I think since 2020, that has slipped a bit a Clemson. it started with a “square peg round hole” approach to DJ, which unfairly made him the scapegoat for all our troubles. Now it’s continued with a complete failure to address our wide receiver problems over 3 seasons . I certainly hope Dabo can get things turned around, but God’s not going to do it, Dabo is going to have to do it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree with you Bill, there is an agenda at play

4

Sep 7, 2023, 10:57 AM

But college football winning and losing is not about entry into heaven. It's about competition. The team with the top coaching and top Jimmy's & Joe's win the games. Clemson had the top Jimmy's and Joe's, and the coaches did not have the team mentally, physically and emotionally ready, and the coaches own the loss. Clemson seems to be positioning itself as a school that intimates we are morally superior to other schools. That attracts some recruits and possibly repels more. But the young men at Clemson are still young men -- they enjoy a cold beer, immature thoughts and romancing the fairer gender. And that's part of God's plan as well.

Poeple have been lining up for years to take a shot at Dabo and now they feel like they deserve to. It may be different if he were a drunkard, whoremonger or child abuser, but Dabo's crime is that he is a good Christian man, as you have said. And they hate him for that. These attacks are far more of an inditement on our society than they are on the man we call Dabo.
