Didn't get in. Weighing my options. I guess there are 3 paths. Most likely is go to App UNCA or UNCG then think about transferring after a year or two. Path 2 go to VPI (Assuming I get in) 100% choice one if I get in. Path 3 cc then Clemson. Most straight forward path but least likely for me to actually go trough with. Just spit balling ideas.

Because if it's not something that Clemson is a leader in wherein a piece of paper with the paw on it is going to give you a leg-up, start somewhere else that's still going to put you on a solid educational path iffin you decide in two years you don't want to transfer.

You're not exactly in a bad place, my dude. Unless you're in a highly specialized field where you're getting a nation-leading curriculum as a part of undergrad, your undergrad degree is largely worthless. Wherever you go, you can find opportunities outside the classroom that will be far more valuable in a job interview than your degree; or for that matter, even if you want to look at grad schools.

He wants to get as high if a GPA as possible. He would probably would get in with a 3.0 if transferring from a community college after a couple of years though.

We just did the NC college thing with my daughter.
UNCC > UNCA > UNCG
Avoid UNCG unless you are commuting and need the local option.
No real opinion on App.
If you were going to Clemson for Engineering then you better make sure engineering classes transfer AND meet curriculum requirements or you will need an extra year to graduate after you get to Clemson.
