Well, the guy Representative Loudermilk was doing a reconnaissance tour family tour for (oddly, through the security checkpoints and stairwells under the Capitol, and on a day when the Capitol was closed for tours) had made himself a spear masquerading as an American flag.

Yes…because it’s not a trial. Also, pubs had a chance to help form a bipartisan investigation/committee, but chose not to. My guess is that most pubs thought at the time that Trump was done and the country would move on. With hindsight and now Trump likely running again, I’d bet many pubs would have happily signed on to whatever investigation or commission would have just made him go away for good.

It’s not an affront to them personally, and it isn’t an indictment of conservative politics. The only possible explanation is that people still agree with what Trump tried to do and want him to run again, I honestly can’t think of any other explanation for people to be so defensive.
IMO, the best possible thing for Republicans is to have Trump be ostracized. Literally any other Republican would win easily, but if trump runs again he will win the nomination, and he will lose in the general, no matter what dipshit the dems run.

The testimony from a witness to the Proud Boys talk ... as a key aspect of a Federal Prosecutors case against selected J6 protestors ... must (sadly [& always]) be taken with a high degree of skepticism.
The DOJ is horribly corrupt (and this has been the case at least since Bill Clinton came into office, got worse under G.W.Bush, got even worse under Obama, then was distracted to undercut DJT instead of going after private citizens with their usual criminal vigor, and now back on the criminal ascent under the leadership of Merrick Garland).
One of the most famous of witness 'tampering' by a Fed. Prosecuting team:
US vs. Ted Stevens.
Lead Fed. Prosecutor Brenda Morris, supported by William Welch (head of PIN [i.e., Public Integrity]) oversaw the tampering of key prosecutorial witness Bill Allen.
Bill Allen, the 'remodeler' who had allegedly provided ~ $240,000 in remodeling duties to Ted Steven's home' testified that he had only been paid ~$160,000 for the remodel job. This was the key 'fact' which 'proved' that Ted Stevens had received a benefit that he did not report.
Bill Allen, who was embroiled in a child sex scandal in Alaska, was given a 'deal' by US prosecutors t have his child sex scandal prosecution dropped in exchange for providing untruthful testimony against Ted Stevens.
In a rare case of Judicial diligence, Emmett Sullivan dug into the prosecutorial misconduct and the witness tampering was found.
MORAL of the STORY: Federal Prosecutors routinely 'witness tamper' and the DOJ has consistently fought like He77 against putting teeth into 'Brady laws' (i.e., the criminal trial version of Discovery), and even since the overturned US vs. T.Stevens trial, this witness tampering continues to run rampant in Federal prosecutions.
