I'm confused about team speed.

I thought I heard Dabo say back in August that this was the fastest team ever at Clemson. He said they had GPS vests on everybody and the data showed this was overall the fastest team.
Now, I hear Tom Luginbill say that he didn't see any difference between the speed of Clemson and Duke. And, talking heads all over the net are talking about lack of speed, not only at WR but everywhere.
Am I confused? Was it some other coach at some other school I heard say that?

Well technically, if your practice squad guys this year are faster than previous years, that would increase your average and you could claim it's the "fastest" team. Of course, that would be completely meaningless in a practical sense, but it could make the statement technically true.

He actually defined what he meant at one point. It was the most guys over 20 MPH or something like that.

I don't get it. Is he lying? I hope not. Is the Oline so bad that the wide outs don't have time to run their deep routes? Are the opposing defenses so great? Tennessee? South Carolina? Puzzling.

Actually the oline did well Monday. On numerous occasions, Cade made the wrong read. Some of the receivers didn't pick up what the D was doing, ran the wrong route.
A few times, Cade in essence, panicked and left the pocket without letting the deep route develop. Now, what I'm shocked about is the D losing containment and Duke's offense speed embarrassed them. Wrong angles, and with "said speed " we should have been drapped all over dook receivers, yet we played soft coverage? Why. Maybe toriano pride should have played instead of Jones.

I agree completely with your assessment of the defense. I could not believe my eyes on some of the angles we took - especially the LB’s. They must have practiced a lot against the second team offense.

They jog and walk through practice every day. Very little is done at full speed. Thus, when first few gamedays arrive, it is a shock to the system. Our players are never fully prepared for first game, as is obvious.

Go back and watch the tape. Look at the vid @spud posted this morning. There's others that broke the game down that have no bias towards Clemson one way or the other.

Well Luginbill is an idiot if he didnt see a difference in the team speed between duke and clemson...either that or he's just trying to be nice to clemson and dabo...because i saw a clear difference in that duke appeared to be much fresher, much quicker, and just as if not faster!!! I thought clemsons defense (especially the lb's and db's in run support or tackling after the catch) looked as if they were very heavy legged and had heavy feet!!! And im a diehard clemson fan, former player and long time season ticket holder!!!
Iah...i thought duke did what they were supposed to do...be patient, play hard, give max effort...they simply looked like a well coached team with some decent talent!!!
I was more disappointed with us and the way we played and looked after a fall camp of great optimism and praise by the head coach!!! Clemson has rarely beat itself with being undisciplined and lacking the fundamentals in the dabo era...this is a game that reminded me of the Tommy Bowden era!!! Which means we will beat FSU and ND and lose to wake and GT!!!

I think there is def speed on this team but I also think there’s a diff in 40 speed and football game speed… taking the right angles on guys etc… something we did very poorly Monday, more than speed what disappointed me on defense more than anything were the very weak tackle attempts and just no convergence on the ball like in the past. Those great teams we had like every play it seemed like guys were hit in the backfield and there would be 3-4 min Clemson defenders near the ball… def didn’t see that Monday or last year really

Good point. Most definitely rolled over from last year. Looking back, I think most of us wrote it off with A. New coach B. Offense giving them zero support, C. Youth on back-end, and D. Injuries and family tragedy up front. A,B,C, & D was not the case Monday.

They look like they're over-thinking rather than attacking. Aggressiveness and instinct can give you an edge there, but we played on our heels IMO, which made us a step slower. Does no good to have a fast 40-time if you're a step slower getting started.

They look slower because of Pork Chop and his choice to play virtually a soft, Prevent Defense all over the field the entire game. A defense which has to "React" to what the offense does is always going to appear a step slow. A defense which penetrates, blitzes and creates havoc will always look fast and aggressive because the offense is having react to them. We need a change back to the BV defensive philosophy to look fast and aggressive again. Porky has all those soft 3-man line defenses looking good on paper up in his dark, office, but in a game they promote slow play, bad reaction, poor tackling and losing defense. Pork Chops office must be like a dungeon similar to that of Rob Spence where all the charts, graphs and plays work like a charm until they hit the like of day, when they scatter like roaches.

First it was how DJ wasn't the problem when everyone could see DJ was the problem (maybe not the only problem). Now, this is the best team, really fast, really good, really ready to win another championship. Seems like there is a HUGE disconnect between what the coaches and players are saying and what we are seeing on the field. It's like I am back in 1984 and the ministry of truth is telling me black is white and white is black. I don't get why this is happening. I guess it will all become apparent when we play Florida State. Still, really weird.

Seems like Josef Goebels has been hired to do press conferences at Clemson the past 3 years. There are some masters of deception at work here, that's for sure. It has come to the point where words coming out of Clemson have about the same percentage of truth as words coming out of D.C.

Enjoy the portal players. I have Norvell credit for the QB, had no idea he was a Louisville cast off. Are there any home grown impact players your coach didn’t poach and pay for?
The Noles are the beneficiary of Dabo Swinney having a personal war with realities he doesn’t agree with. Are you really proud of a team your school didn’t really recruit and develop? It’s kind of gross all this is legal to do.
Your fans send Dabo thank you letters for being a stubborn oak tree and allowing you to take the league from him. You didn’t really earn it.
