So if anyone thinks all our problems on offense are solved and it was “just one of them days where we couldn’t punch it in” against TENN then they are living in a fairy land of delusion
We got big issues that need addressing - skill, scheme and coaching

You can only so much scheme without talent. If our receivers that we signed are not game changers, we are in for more of the same this year I am afraid. We saw some bright spots, but bottom line, if opposing teams have little fear of our receiving threats, we are playing with 1 hand behind our backs.

The receivers get a lot of blame and maybe rightfully so. But did we just bust on every wr we recruited? Except for antonio Williams? Or do we have an entire team of inexperienced coaches that lack the ability to adequately develop players. I think it’s the latter. Dabo has filled the coaching positions with friends instead of qualified coaches.

Look, it doesn't take a genius to understand the biggest issue in 25 of the last 27 games was having a QB who can actually find WRs and deliver the ball to them. Maybe I misunderstood what I was seeing these last two games?
Contrarily, we simply cannot accurately gauge the WR group until we have a QB who can get them the ball.

Right. Somebody caught those 30 passes for 320 yards. We threw to 6 different receivers/TEs and both running backs. Moved up and down the field all night. Problem was we couldn’t get 3-4 yards when we needed it.

I think you are right. Teams are going to load the box and dare us to pass because they believe our WRs won't get separation and won't win their fair share of 50/50 balls which we relied on in the past when we had more talent. So, we either have to get better talent (recruiting and/or portal) or develop the talent we have into what we need it to be. And whether we can do this or not is the million-dollar question.

once we implanted a QB who can get them the ball.
My thing is I'm trying to get people to grasp what they saw in these last two games and understand it is NOT the same as what we saw in the previous 25 games.
Plus we have some elite talent coming in at WR.
All is not lost.

for those who can't see that Clemson's offense appears scripted and doesn't exploit match-ups, lacks any pre-snap movement or diagnosis, rarely throws between the hashes, and underutilizes its best players, it's only because they aren't looking at it objectively.

Tennessee is top 12 in tackles for loss though and IMO the pressure they put on Cade was the real issue. Receivers were getting open all night and if he had more time or stepped up in the pocket more often, he would have found them.

You need to rewatch the game. Watch the all 22 or over head cam. There were plays to be made. There were wide receivers open. Cade just didn't/couldn't find them. A lot has to do with him for one not stepping up into the pocket and 2 not having the time to find the open guy. Yes the o-line has to get better but the QB can't slide outside his protection. Cade will get better and become more comfortable. It was a lot of pressure for a young man's first start. I find it funny all these Monday morning QB faux analysis. When Streeter first got hired he had the praise of the college football world for what he did for Stoudt leading up up to the Russel Athletics Bowl verses Oklahoma. Now after one season of OC and a QB that couldn't get out of his own head Streeter has no idea what he is doing. Streeter is fine players need to execute. I'm more worried about the lack of aggression on the defensive side of the ball. We were actually suppose to be elite there and we weren't. Nobody knew what the expect from the offense and considering all things there's no question they were better. My only criticism of Streeter is his tendency to get away from running the football. Sometimes he pushes too hard to establish the pass at the expense of the run game and unfortunately at the expense of winning the South Carolina game.

Still, I can't get over Dabo and Streeter stuck with DJ all season knowing DJ was not returning next season and would be quitting as soon as he was benched. This is not building for the future. Clemson's 2022 record would be identical IMHO if Cade had started most of the season, and you're right, Cade would absolutely have been more comfortable vs Tennessee after 5-6 starts. As for Defense, no doubt BV's energy and experience were missed.

Cade ran into pressure more times than he ran away from it. He never stepped up in the pocket (which was very clean most of the time) and instead backed up directly into the defensive ends, or scrambled back and to his right to get sacked. Yes, there were times where he got rushed and sacked/hurried right up the middle, but not that many. There were many many chances for BIG plays if he had stepped up in the pocket, either by him running or throwing down field. This is to be expected when a true FR in his first start. I don't blame Cade really, but I 100% lay all of it on Dabo and the coaches for sticking with DJ way too long. DJ should have lost the starting job after the Syracuse game. If Cade had been playing since then, he'd have been MUCH better by the time we got to USuC and the ACC Champ.
There was no way our receiver group could grow or develop any momentum with DJ, he was terrible. I saw receivers & TE's making plays and getting open in the last two games because Cade could deliver the ball. I think the issue was the whole offense had been watered down for DJ and his lack of ability to read defenses or go through progressions. Under DJ, our passing game was 75% WR screens because there was NO READ involved and if he sailed the pass it just went OB. He had devolved into a slower and less accurate version of Kelly Bryant.
Next year, I think the offense takes a HUGE step forward. I think Cade lights it up, but he has a LOT of work to do this offseason.

Was trying to re-watch some of the bowl game recording. I'll note one play - 1st posession, 3rd Quarter, CU drives inside the TN 30 yd line. A screen is called to Shipley on the right side, with two recievers lined up right to block outside. Both TN defenders smoke out the screen, as Cade stared Ship down the whole time. Much worse than than that, neither CU receivers actually blocked their assignment. A block by Antonio Williams would have sprung Ship to the outside. Instead, the cover guys whiff right past the CU receivers and Shipley is buried in the backfield. I stopped watching.

over to constant griping and wanting to fire everyone.. unless we win the natty.
Wait, does it matter that we had 100 more passing yards and 80 more total yards than Tennessee was allowing on average? I want to make sure I have permission to be excited about the very clear improvement we saw, and then look forward to next season with a budding star at QB. Is that still okay?

Against the worst secondary in college football on a night we were running the ball with authority and the Defense played about as well as anyone had all year against Tenn.
And we sit around and scratch our heads as to why…

What I pointed out stands, and accurately so. Of course we missed a gazillion red zone opportunities, but that doesn't change the fact we surpassed UTs season averages in yards allowed.
Look man, if you want to grind your teeth down until we prove to you the offense is immediately improved, then you have fun with that. I'm not trying to fix your pessimism, but I'm moving forward based on the facts.

I agree we are improved with Klubnik at qb. I’m
not going to dispute that.
But that being said, we are a long way from being elite. And I don’t think it is as simple as “teach Klubnik to step up in the pocket”.
I don’t think gaining yards against 2 horrible defenses proves much when it comes to being able to compete a CFB playoff level. That’s the goal, right?

defense numbers are at least a little skewed by the fact that UTs offense was often killing their opponents - so their opponents were always passing to catch up…
