gotta be honest… I think Goodwin

Nov 27, 2022, 11:40 AM

did a heckuva job this year. He’s a good coach who’s following a guy that had “god” status in Clemson.

We did some good things defensively. Like any other position… he’ll grow and get better.

I did not think the defense lived up to its preseason hype.***

I think he did a poor job, and I’m concerned about what it will look like next year after we lose a bunch of talent.

This 100x

We will have 50% of the talent in the interior DL and unproven DEs.

Assuming Ship and Mafa go early to the NFL in two years, we will have no one at RB.

Outside of OL and QB, I don't see any position group improving that much in the next couple of years.

With less talent and the same coaching, this could get really ugly fast.

He needs to go back upstairs to the box.***

I’d say jury is still out

The defense was put under a heavy burden ala 2021, with a very erratic offense.

Not to mention nobody accounts for our own offense sucking the life out of our defense. These kids aren’t robots it has to be hard getting stops only to consistently be back on the field in 5 min or less

I think

Nov 27, 2022, 12:04 PM

that the defense didn’t live up to the pre season hype BUT there were a number of key injuries all year. The defensive backfield needs a quick fix. Portal?

There is work to do but I can’t say he isn’t the guy to get it done. Replacing Henry is going to be his biggest challenge. That is one Clemson Football player I’d go to war with. I’m going to miss number 5 next year.

Two more games. Maybe the coaches will use these last two as a way to see where we need to go. It’s obvious now that a high finish isn’t going to happen so prepare for 2023.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Clemson and their next opponent play in the championship game. Both lost their final game to their rival instate school.

Our secondary will really be challenged.

We have probs with our db’s, but our biggest problem

Nov 27, 2022, 12:00 PM

Is our anemic offense. I am hoping that Dabo repeats his first year move and changes OC’s. Someone needs to be held accountable for a truly miserable offense.

Agreed.

Goodwin is not a liability. No one doubts his understanding of defense and of defensive personnel.

He wasn't good enough at the start of the season to make either in-game or game-to-game adjustments (witness the terrible times defending screen passes), but he improved and now does both of those very well.

As far as 'how well does he recruit' we have tremendous recruiters in L.Hall, M.Reed, and N.Eason. Unless this coming signing class all defects, then restocking the cupboard will not be a liability for us having Goodwin as DC.

He got better as the year went on. Still think he should've been a position coach not the DC but he might turn out solid, jury is out on him and next year will tell alot.

Agreed. Goodwin improved as a play caller as the season progressed. Appears that he has a solid understanding of what his players strengths and weaknesses are and puts them in the best possible position to win the matchup.

Lackluster D-Line play and an erratic offense rarely capable of sustaining drives really hurt the defense.

You can weather 1 new coordinator but 2 was too much to ask especially when the playcallers on offense could not figure out how to run a ball control offense maximizing the one position with skill and depth at RB.
