We definitely need go to receiver for Cade

Sep 8, 2023, 9:13 AM

Pretty well shows what Cade has to work with although his decision making skills need a lot of work

This was the most honest analysis I saw on Clemson this week. This pundit gives you both sides of the coin in a very honest, football-intelligent way. Nice job, dude.

Agree. It was a breath of fresh air to hear some actual analysis.

It was about what I expected -- a mixture of good and bad. If anything, it definitely made me feel better in some ways about how the offense performed and that Dabo actually isn't as crazy as he sounds.

That said, IDK what the ceiling might look like for the offense. We know what the bottom looks like (Duke) and yes, we'll be lucky to win any games if that is what we have to look forward to all year...However, I'm not ready to just declare this as a lost season.

The reboot starts on Saturday - Clemson needs to iron out the kinks on offense these next two weeks. Here's to hopefully turning the page and seeing better results moving forward.

I was the most disappointed that we didn't see all those

wide open over the middle crossing routes that TCU seemed to live on last year. As a matter of fact, I didn't really see ANYTHING that resembled that offense, even though our talent level, at least on paper, is much better than theirs was.

Does cade trust any wide receiver we have?

Duke played a cover 2 most of the night...

The two corners and three linebackers play the underneath zones and the two safeties play the deep zones. We ran some high and low routes toward both corners and used the RB out of the backfield to counter that. Route running by some of the WRs needs work (running too deep or too shallow) and they have to actually catch the ball. Play calling was NOT the reason Clemson lost to Duke Monday night. The loss boiled down to execution (or the lack thereof) and turnovers.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Absolutely agree. And I'll be honest, it took me seeing this video yesterday when Spud posted it to see that. Also realized the OL had played better than I originally thought. We literally had catastrophic error drive after drive. Some being Cade and some being the WR/RB, and don't even mention the epic failure by the kicker....

We need to continue to run the football and success in the running game will carry over to the passing game. Dabo and Riley understand that Cade is just in his 4th real game and is learning as he grows up.

Teams are going to go back and do what they did to us last year. Load the box to stop the run and make us have to pass. If we don't get the passing game going, that makes it extra hard for our RBs to have sustained success.

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not going to work, you have to show

Sep 8, 2023, 9:47 AM [ in reply to Re: We definitely need go to receiver for Cade ]

that you can pass the ball and back those defenders out of the box.

When our rec's turn their head to look back for Cade and the
pass, he is running around like a chicken with his head cut
off.He needs to stand in the pocket and find his open rec.
Somebody needs to block better for Cade.

Watch that video and you will see Cade made mistakes with plenty of time to throw. His footwork was a problem on some, and then not stepping up in the pocket was a problem on others. Then having WR who are open then running toward coverage on top of that. Just absolutely colossal mistakes all over the field. But it's over and nothing we can do about it now. Just gotta have hope we improve
