When DW leaves, no edge. When we lose 5+ to the NFL on defense, no edge. Someone will step up, and we will spread the talent, and balance the team however we need to. Watch Renfrow's numbers against Bama. They'll be huge because they'll be so worried about Mike Williams. Same way we used Humphries. Same way we used Grisham. DW will give Wayne running room with his arm and his running. We don't feed our star players like Tommy Bowden did and hope they can take the team on their back and win it. We play a solid, team game. We have no problem distributing the ball to whoever can contribute, even if they do well because someone else is so much better.
And yes, we're developing players very well. Sure, 5-star guys are good to have, but you can be just as successful (or more) using those 5-star guys as decoys. Mike Williams will play on Sundays, but he will not have that great a game against Bama. And that's fine because someone like Renfrow will benefit and CLEMSON will benefit from Mike Williams drawing so much attention from Bama's defense.
Ferrell came out of nowhere to absolutely disrupt Ohio State because they were so worried about Lawrence, Wilkins, etc. So the "development" of good players into great players happens because the already great players give them that chance. Florida State couldn't just reload after Jameis Winston left. Auburn couldn't just reload after Cam Newton left. We couldn't just reload after Spiller left. We relied on those guys too much. So did FSU and Auburn. Sure, they got their natty, but they're not Alabama. Saban and Dabo know what to do to be consistently good. Do that and you get your chances at the Natty honestly and frequently. Rely on a star to carry your team, and you may get that Natty but not a dynasty.
So no, the way we operate there are no edges to fall off of. We may have a 2-3 loss season at worst and a shot at the Natty at best. But we're in a position to keep playing at a high level now and Dabo knows that.

Who are the coots as a fan base knowing anything about recruiting well and player development? Their only few years of being above average came only bc of a legend coach at the end of his spark. When Spurriers flicker went out, the coot team went away!!!

USC - "Where Coaching Legends Die"

Dietzel, Holtz, Spurrier. No one is immune. By the time USC is finished with a good coach, they have nothing left but doing cheezy commercials. Even the networks won't hire them as talking heads.
If you're a good coach, you'd stay away from USC.
