Values, where did they go?

It is what it is regarding the Transfer Portal and NIL, but as a kid I was taught-
You do as and what the team does. If there’s a practice, you are there. You’re not a starter, well you better work to get better. Not playing much, no pouting. And you never, ever quit.
We tried to teach our kids that as well.
Was it difficult seeing your kid not always being the star or the best? Of course.
Was it incredibly rewarding when they did great things and the TEAM did? Absolutely the best.
Those days of TEAM and not me are long gone.

In the height of your career, you were offered $1M a year.

You had to move to another job that was similar for a year and then could move on to your dream job. Or you could stay in the job you’re at when other smarter, better looking, and more popular people are doing a better job than you are and at the end of it all you don’t get your dream job. This is no longer about team and about his life. Until Dabo airs it he’s done nothing to earn vitriol towards him. He’s been a meaningful part of the team and helped to bring in the studs and show them the ropes and he’s set to earn his degree. Give him some slack

Rules "rule". Rules change.
I got cut on day one from my first attempt at Little League Baseball even though I knew I was better than many who made it. It felt unfair but WT F?
Today is not that day. College Sports are a multi million dollar "business". We enjoy pretending it is like the old days, but it is not.

So, on the surface, morally, I agree with you. But I also think that these kids only have a short period to try and prove themselves. It doesn't serve anyone to sit on the bench for 5 years. Now I'm not saying transferring will lead to success, but we have to remember, these kids have a limited amount of time to try and figure it out. But by saying, you shouldn't transfer is basically saying, hey you've realized you aren't the best at this job, based on a decision you made as a 17/18 year old, guess your career is over. I'm not for a total free market, but I do think its fair to say you get one freebie. I also believe the stakes are a little higher in major college football as compared to giving up on your high school team.

Mellusi could be doing the same things at Clemson

If Lyn-J has moved on before last year (which he should have when ETN returned) then Mellusi would have been the odds on staring RB this season with lots of experience under his belt.
I personally think Lyn-J caused the RB room to get out of balance by returning with outsized expectations and an entitled attitude.
This is what Inread between the lines.
Its just MHO.

Sportsmanship?

....and when you lose, you congratulate the winner and start over trying to get better for the next round.....
But we sure are getting a lesson in how NOT to do that right now.....Sportsmanship does not exist with some of our leaders...

They all hope to make to the next level. Less than 2 percent do. Of those that make it, most don't make beyond 3 years. After that, they have to figure out how to make a living doing something different besides football.
Dabo tries to help them make it in life for the 98% that never get there and the guys that don't make past 3 years as a pro.
Dabo should be commended for that many times over!!!!

It astounds me how most people deep down know what you wrote is pure truth but so many will say that because times and $$$ and culture changes, we have to change also. The minute that values and ethics take a back seat to what is popular or "brand new" in the world, you are about to see things that were built right come toppling down. The hypocrisy to me is that all of those naysayers who will argue against what you wrote would have a different opinion if they were coaching and building a program in their culture.

Well it's been like that for some time with leaving early.

Did DW leaving early help the 2017 team? Certainly not. Helped DW. Can't blame him for looking out for him. Same with TL leaving. These guys have to look out for themselves in the big business that college football has become. The problem is that they all think they are going to be pro football players, which obviously not many actually make happen. As long as they are getting a good degree, and actually finish the degree, let them go play more (supposedly) somewhere else. The school promises them nothing except for a scholarship and the chance to compete. Sometimes a change is needed to try to get to a better situation. Just like jobs in the real world!

Athletes.
Students transfer in and out of schools every day and we don't care.
But when it happens to a student on the football team it becomes immoral. I should write, "a student on the the football team we care about." I don't think any1 cared when herbstreit xfered.
