and in 1960 at Archmore HS he helped lead them to an undefeated 8-0 record as a Half-back & prolific WR with 10 TD's. His # was 30.
Film shows him open many times behind the DB's.
Joe's nickname was DASH due to his stutter and number of dashes needed to complete a sentence.
At the Univ of Delaware (Fighting Blue Hens) he played only freshman football but not varsity..
and didn't play at Syracuse due to studying to be an Attorney and meeting his 1st wife there.
As a history major & interest in such I like to learn about what a person has done in earlier days and not judge them by what they are doing now.

Delaware is a small state (I grew up there) and private school is even a smaller universe than public school. So little competition. He might have been a big fish, but it was a very small pond
