Was there a way to sell out and contain the qb

Yesterday and force him to beat you throwing? I need to go back and watch but really don’t want to. At the end he knew he wasn’t going to throw bc of all the mishaps and turnovers. So we all knew he was going to go back wait for the rush and evade the pocket yet we never adjusted. Maybe we tried but we just don’t have the playmakers. Was Sammy brown in late? I feel like he’s the only one good enough to make a play.

Yes. Goodwin should have kept Sammy on the field to spy Sellers.
He didn't.
The rest his history.

I'm thinking that is a Dabo call on Brown. I believe if it was Wes, he would go with his most athletically gifted guys.

You want to believe that. Puddin is the DC. He calls the defense and controls substitutions. If people believe Dabo doesn’t mess with the OC calling plays, you have to believe he doesn’t screw with the defense either. He’s an offensive coach anyway.
I don’t understand the protected status Goodwin gets. He’s destroyed what was once a perennial dominate defense. He couldn’t figure out how to stop a one man show in the biggest game of the year at home.
Unforgivable. He should be fired Monday morning.

I was wondering if a DB would of been the best answer to just spy him. Someone who was faster.

You might be right. I just saw the linemen and LB'S getting juked so maybe a little more speed and agility might of worked.

Mickens got hurt on the last Td run because Woodazz dove and missed Seller’s but rolled on RJ’s ankle/leg

Mickens got hurt bc our DL rolled into his ankle/knee. He never actually got the chance to touch Sellars. Wasn't going to bring him down anyhow. We needed to spy Sellars with Sammy Brown but we didn't.

Did you watch sellers drag one our Dabs 10 yards down the field? That’s the issue. He’s bigger than most LBs and as fast as most DBs. Nightmare.

Our D held the coots to their 2nd lowest point total of the season. Only Old Miss did a better job but the entire coot team did not show up for that game. Sellers is an elite athlete so thinking we could have changed the D and stopped him is unlikely. FWIW our O was the problem. We played a hurt RB who should have been watching from the sideline plus our play calling was suspect. Had our O been able to put more points on the board or get a few first downs, the completion of the game would have been vastly different as Sellers would have been forced to pass.

Yes. There is a way. 1) Keep your best tackler, a 240 pound LB in the game at crunch time and sit one of the upper classmen who miss tackles. 2) Tackle the man head-on, not from the side, 3) take his legs out. If you try to ride him down he will just shuck you off and keep going. 4) When you have him surrounded, "attack him" don't sit back and wait for him to start running. 5) Blitz him, especially on throwing downs and get to him before he can start running. Once Sellars starts running he was almost impossible to bring down, especially with our arm tacklers. We have a very poorly coached defense in so many small details of the game they are too numerous to count. It was like everyone in the stadium knew what was about to happen and our DC did nothing to stop it, including keeping his best player out of the game.

Not a defensive expert but seems like we should have slow rushed 4 to keep in the pocket and played 8 in zone to keep everyone’s eyes toward the QB and make him make accurate throws.
I get the criticism of Goodwin, but his defense did hold the coots to half the points (17) than Brent Venables defense did (35) for what that’s worth.
