9yo son had a growth in his nose. It got bigger and bigger. Local ENT took a look and well, freaked out. It's a very rare tumor/growth and he suggested we see a specialist at MUSC. Specialist saw it, said it's almost certainly not malignant, BUT it will keep growing if not removed. It's a surgery he has done many times. By the time we had the surgery this morning it was well over 2cm and had fully blocked one of his nostrils. They removed it, it had a very small attachment point, and the doc said it looks like it's non-malignant. MRI's showed it had not spread into any other tissue or bone. Problem is it was too vascular to do a biopsy as it bleeds A LOT if punctured. All docs said it's safest to go ahead and remove it THEN do the pathology.
Still crossing fingers for the pathology results, but it's VERY rare to be cancer in this place, at that age, and didn't look cancerous to the doc. But dang if it wasn't annoying.
1 hour surgery and it's gone. Pending unforeseen pathology results, this should be a one and done thing, although we will have to monitor it to make sure it doesn't return.
