Vegas odds Syracuse

Oct 20, 2022, 10:15 AM

Believe I saw the stat where the orange have covered against us 5 straight games. Spread this week is 13.5. I believe that trend may continue but I think its by .5. I have us by 13. What do yal think? We talked about this and a couple more games in our 'SHOW ME THE MONEY" segment this week where me and the brother are 69% and 60% on the year. Check us out. Go tigers!

It COULD be for sure unless we keep our foot.......

on the gas the WHOLE game. If we ease up in the 4th quarter, for example, like we did against FSU we can lose. We've got to play a whole game.

They've played us very close the last several meetings. I'm curious what makes you think--particularly after watching our run defense (and in particular, our LB's) get gashed last week---that it won't be that close?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Screw Calford.

Clemson will be, by far...

Oct 20, 2022, 10:28 AM

the best opponent Cuse has faced so far this year, and it really isn't close. If Clemson plays to its potential (a complete game on both sides of the ball), Clemson wins by at least two TD's.

That's the issue. There it's certainly questionable that Clemson plays to potential. It hasn't really happened all year.

I have it Clemson 20-10 Two tremendous defenses. DJU makes the difference

Re: It won't be that close IMO***

Oct 20, 2022, 11:43 AM

Explain your logic, Clemson scored 30 on NC State’s defense, and they had their starting quarterback when we played them and moved the ball. So you’re saying your defense is better than NC state’s? I’m not sure if I agree with that , I see the game more like 38-17. However if we continue to struggle in the secondary could be 38-27 Or something like that

Our defense is most def. better than NC State. In every category

That's nothing to get too excited about.

Yup, definitely not a great schedule up to now. I still believe we have an elite defense. I do find it very hard for tigernetters to be objective about anything. Lol. Can't wait to come down there Saturday. Great place.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That sounds a little like the pot calling the kettle black..

Oct 20, 2022, 1:26 PM

Cuse may have a really good defense, but referring to them as elite at this point is stretch IMO especially considering your SOS ranking is around 90th nationally (per Sagarin).

Re: Vegas odds Syracuse

After watching our run defense last week, I'm having trouble seeing us cover this spread. Cuse has a great RB and a very mobile QB.

Re: Vegas odds Syracuse

Oct 20, 2022, 11:55 AM

I get what you're saying, but it will take more than 1 game for me to lose confidence in our run defense as that just ignores the run defense over the first 6 games. We're still only giving up 82.7 rushing yards per game on the season.

Re: Vegas odds Syracuse

Oct 20, 2022, 10:45 AM

I posted this in another discussion yesterday but it is worth repeating.

Since Syracuse joined the ACC in 2013, there have been 3 close games in the series.
-2021 DJ and the entire team struggled with almost everyone, Clemson won by 3 at Syracuse

-2018 KB had quit & TL was injured in 1st half, https://www.si.com/college/clemson/football/clemson-football-flashback-friday-clemson-syracuse-septmber-29-2018

"That nervousness only intensified on the very next drive when Lawrence took a shot to the head from Syracuse defensive back Evan Foster as he was scrambling out of the pocket... and didn't get up." Clemson still won by 4

-2017 Kelly Bryant was injured, Syracuse won by 3 at Syracuse

If you take out those 3 games, we have beaten them by an average of +28 points!

The ONLY time the game has been close at home was when we had our 3rd string QB in for over half of the game! This game will be closer to the average.

Re: Vegas odds Syracuse

Oct 20, 2022, 10:52 AM

Good post. The only thing I'll disagree with is your points only take into consideration the issues with Clemson during the close games. The difference IMO is that this Syracuse teams is much better than the Syracuse teams that you beat by an average of 28 points. And Vegas agrees. Should be fun.

Re: Vegas odds Syracuse

Oct 20, 2022, 11:00 AM

Vegas is trying to sucker New Yorkers into taking Syracuse and the points. Remember a point spread is not a prediction.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is basically a prediction - particularly the opening line

Oct 20, 2022, 11:07 AM

The final point spread is essentially a consensus of what the betting population predicts will occur in the game. The opening line is literally a prediction of what will happen in the game - generally spit out by some analytics system.

Spot on. Do you have a take on my points about you only taking Clemson's issues into consideration with the close games and nothing about this being the best syracuse team in 20 years? Remember I still think you win Saturday

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Vegas odds Syracuse

Oct 20, 2022, 11:16 AM

I had a hard enough time remembering what was going on with Clemson during those games. Now you want me to look into what issues Syracuse was dealing with during those games? I do have a job that I am supposed to be doing. Besides it won't support my biased narrative. :)

Starting in 2017 (we won't talk about 2016), Dungey was a better QB than Shrader is. The 3-3-5 defense Syracuse started running was the best defense Syracuse had in several years and still managed to lose 41 - 6 and 47 - 21 in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Syracuse injuries and COVID played a part in those lopsided scores. The facts show when Clemson is full strength, it hasn't been close.

2016, Tigers full strength win 54 - 0
2017, Tigers QB injury lose 24 - 27
2018, Tigers QB injury win 27 - 23
2019, Tigers full strength win 41 - 6
2020, Tigers full strength (COVID) win 47 - 21
2021, Tigers down 20+ players win 17 - 14

What body of work indicates this is the best Syracuse team in 20 years? Syracuse has played 5 of 6 games at home, beat NC State without their QB and beat Purdue who is not exactly beating power houses. Add in Wagner, UConn, UVA and Louisville there is nothing indicating this is the best team in 20 years.

2014 was fairly close. We trailed 6-3 midway through 3

Oct 20, 2022, 11:03 AM [ in reply to Re: Vegas odds Syracuse ]

before pulling away late to win 16-6.

Again though, Watson was injured and we were struggling offensively against everyone with Cole Stoudt at QB.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 2014 was fairly close. We trailed 6-3 midway through 3

Oct 20, 2022, 11:10 AM

So you're saying that 3 out of 4 times that the game has been somewhat close our 1st string QB wasn't playing or was playing injured? Be careful publicly giving out that info. We have Syracuse fans patrolling Tigernet. We don't want this to become their game plan.
