Pork Chop, at times, has been out-schemed by two teams with no where near the talent he has.
I'd say ol' boy needs to step up soon

establish dominance as the alpha. BV could could just stare into the soul of Breese and Co and telepathically communicate he could kill them all, hide the bodies, and nobody would ask questions.
Ol Corky doesn’t exactly exude that confidence yet.

I'm wayyyy more worried about our O than the D

OL sucks yet again. Can't run. so so protection. QB is avg at best. I'm beginning to think our OL problems are scheme problems than personnel.
D will be fine. I think people are romanticizing BV. He was very good but had his issues as well.

Venebles key to success was not overpursuing.

He ran a balls to the wall aggressive defense, BUT, he had it schemed perfectly where they never got totally burned either. I've seen some overly aggressive plays end up flops with Mr. Pork Chop. He's relying too heavily on the star-packed D-line, and not scheming properly with the LB's and DB's. Venebles had a LOT of plays that were saved by DB's who came up after the front overpursued.
We will be caught MANY more times this season with the screen pass. It has emerged as a weakness, and even BV wasn't perfect catching the screens. But Coach Chop seems a bit more vulnerable to it, and a few other plays.

run fits? This is what he's talkin about. In relation to your gap responsibility, where do you fit? I say run fit, because a screen pass is not really a pass so much as an extension of the running game. They ain't throwing it down field into a zone, they're getting the ball into the hands of a speedy guy on or behind the LOS....so run fit.
DLine has first responsibility on a screen...recognize that you're not being blocked, and follow the dudes that aren't blocking you instead of chasing the QB. They aren't blocking you because they are pulling or looping around the end to block for the RB who is about to get the ball...so they will take you to the play. LBs and safeties....run fits, is the play going to the boundary or field side, what is your run fit in your gap. If you're gap A responsible...should you be inside the A gap or outside...that depends on the whether the ball is going east or west.
After the first successful screen Coach Poke Chop should've or probably did have a sit down X and O sesh on the sideline with his defense. To me it just looked like they hadn't practiced for the screen at all. But it ain't hard to learn and implement.

As a former defensive lineman, the key is recognizing it

quickly enough to get your head around to spot the target. If I'm two steps from C.J. Spiller on the screen, it's gonna be too late to catch him. It's harder to run a screen than you might think. But the d-linemen have got to have their head in the game and react quickly. Make the QB throw it up in the air a little bit by getting your hands up, and that gives you maybe a step to stop it before they get away from you.

head should be why did the guy in front of me not block me? Did he block down? If so, knock him down and squeeze tight in the hole, cuz somebody else is comin' to block you and they got a head of steam. If the guy in front of you just up and leaves, you better follow him, cuz he's going to where the action is. DL 101.

care of the screens, and maybe they aren't disciplined, or someone fast like KJ or XT is supposed to have responsibility. Different coaches teach it different ways, and Venables and Goodwin might not have had the same philosophy. I know BV used to love to call defensive plays to attack certain formations, but it made us susceptible to quick snaps, as we have all seen before.

YOUR job on D….people die, nations fall, empires crumble. They were doing what was scripted til Coach Poke had his “oh shid! I need to fix that” moment.

and it's been two games in a row.
I do think his defensive calls will cost us a game, only because the offense cannot cover up defensive miscues

2018 and Pitt in 2016. It happens. I think the players just need to relax and not get so exciting and over pursue on the screens.

The 'university student' Pork Chop leaves the academic environment to take a real job in the real world.
Predictably, in his first few on-the-job / in-the-real-world projects he leaves out some important details. The big boss (CEO Swinney) gives him a talking-to.
(?) How quickly will PC address his mistakes, identify the remedy for those mistakes, and get Hall, Eason, Reed, and himself to coach up their respective D-units to fix these deficiencies?
(*) Whether Pork Chop can translate his great brain into great coaching ... who knows?
... fingers crossed.
